Honestly I much prefer this version of Hammond. Was he perfect? No. But all he wanted to do was bring magic to the world and do something no one’s ever done before. I feel bad for him as he realizes that dream will never become a reality.

He has the look of a man watching the house that he built with his own hands burn to the ground.

It’s a tragic ending to a man who just wanted to bring magic to the world and show them something they’ve never seen before.

Mr Attenborough does not receive enough credit in this film for his absolutely sold out portrayal of a man with a magnificent dream that gets destroyed in front of him. He’s totally convincing in the role. His outing in the “Great Escape” was a similar level of dedication.

I think people forget a lot of movies he’s in because of Jurassic Park and those movies came before it. But he was an incredibly talented actor and meant for cinema. It’s cool he does acting while his brother does more realistic TV work.

A movie with real emotions. I miss the 90’s.

I wonder if that spook was in the script or if it was accidental and they just used the take

Pretty understandable tbh. It was his dream (let alone life's work) to bring dinosaurs for the modern era, and it went up in smoke.

While a lot of it was his fault, it’s still hard to watch as a man who just wanted to show the world something great now knows that’ll never happen.

Yup its honestly sad since in the movie Hammond was a good guy that got his dream crushed just because he did one mistake regarding hiring Dennis Nedry for the management of the Security of the Park. the "Now You're John Hammond" line in The Lost World hits harder because it imo.

Nedry definitely wasn’t his only mistake. But still even after all his arrogance and lack of knowing what could happen. It’s still sad to see his dream just go up in smoke.

yup because at the end of the day the movie ver. of him just wanted kids to have the same sparkles in their eyes that he had when he saw that small-scale peas circus as a kid. 💔

Attenborough, masterful actor, without saying a word here, his whole life’s dream and work destroyed and people died. This scene was sublime.

Truly a phenomenal actor and had the chops for television just like his brother.

Yeah it’s a great scene. He just wanted to make something great for the world.

I hate how, for some reason, movie Hammond is cast as a villain when somehow people are collectively thinking of book Hammond. A mistake that wouldn’t be made if you read the damn book and saw the film lol

Фото профиля BasedSpaceGoji

Yea idk why people think movie Hammond is anything close to a villain. Was he perfect? No. Did he make a lot of arrogant mistakes? Yes. But he never showed ill intent like book Hammond.

It’s why I felt emotion seeing Jurassic World where the park was fully functional filled with people. It was the man’s dream fully realized. A man’s got to have a dream

Better that than what happened to him in the book.

Hammond was the villain. In the book that is the part where he gets eaten.

Hammond in the book was 100% the villain but this Hammond was nothing like that. Sure he made mistakes and didn’t realize his own arrogance until it was too late. But all he wanted to do was show the world something great.

I think it all comes down to why the kids were there. If he brought them because he believed the park was safe and wanted them to have a good experience, fine. If he ignored their safety because he was trying to manipulate others into thinking it was safer than it was, villain.

Фото профиля BasedSpaceGoji

Probably the first one. The way he treated his grand kids throughout the movie. How he was upset they didn’t get to see anything on the tour to how worried he was when they were missing. To the shear terror of them getting chased by raptors. I don’t think there was ill intentions

Movie Hammond still deserved this or worse, but he was definitely better and more sympathetic than book Hammond who got eaten and deserved it

Hammond was a huckster and a fraud, but, this was the only time, possibly in his life, he was hit by reality. No flea circus, no cartoons, no rides. He made something real and dangerous. Then, we saw, one more time, the showman emerging... and Grant snaped him back to reality.

The dream is gone. One of the best things Crichton/Koepp/Spielberg did was to humanise Hammond from his book version

This Hammond truly cared for what he was trying to build. And I think we can all understand, that as a lover of dinosaurs, we'd all want to see the dream come alive as well.

It's way better than his reaction at the end of the book... LOL!

Honestly what probably makes it sadder is despite his wish becoming reality via Jurassic World, it was never meant to lost and people only tainted it by what he wanted something magical only turns into chaos and death via hybrids or genetic power of weaponizing dinosaurs.

I mean it's kinda hard to feel bad when literally every bad thing was his fault. The park couldn't stand a storm that was normal for the area, having one underpaid tech guy, even his helicopters had faulty seat belts.

The version doesn’t matter. John Hammond is not to be pittied nor should you ever feel bad for him. He is at this point directly responsible for the death of 5 people.

The dude legit had his heart in the right place. He was never a greedy businessman. Just someone who had a dream to bring the prehistoric world to the people. And his dream went to shit and never realize. He wonders what will happen to his world now. Have nature truly won.
