The whole ending was perfect and it’s why it was one of my favorite Christmas specials as a kid! Helga standing out in the snow without boots, sacrificing the only thing she wanted to pass on kindness that will never be rewarded, 🥲

It wasn't until we got older that we realized Mr. Hyunh's story about getting separated from Mai took place during the Fall of Saigon. Which just makes that hit even harder.

I was thinking about a few things. Mai was at least around 1 year old cause she could walk but was still small when she was given to the helicopter. My Theory is that people from their village saw her at the military base where they were more then likely evacuated to and took her in. So they more then likely raised her and the solder told them what city they were going to and thats where he said she would be for her Father to find her. She more then likely was raised by them in the city not to far away because she can still speak her native tounge and knowns it's him more then likely because he adopted family may have had photos of him and her from the village they may have been able to save. Thats my theory.

I always tear up

No matter how often I watch this scene it will never stop being heartwarming. This show was one that was unafraid to be human and broach hard topics.
