i thought we were getting a psychological thriller man

they actually had me believing we were gonna get a show that explored existential dread and how it decayed these characters

really wish there was more depth about the circus, it felt like a good opportunity to reveal it's dirty secrets but we ended up with a more character driven plot instead

I have mixed feelings on the show. I feel like there was a lot of potential and hints of the depth that we were kinda promised in the beginning, but I feel like it simultaneously focused too much on its characters while not doing enough for its characters.

The show is good it just has some wasted potential. The end of episode 1 is so so hard to beat like I don’t think I’ve ever emphasized with a character’s despair so much

I still love TADC but I miss when it wasn’t the Jax and friends show.

"....Since when are you the expert on the digital world?" "Expert on what?" Oh, that line actually hits a bit harder knowing what we know now

@mayloveschase I really thought we were gonna get lore on all the abstracted characters at some point and what thier relationship with the main cast was

Nothing about this pilot tells u ur in for The Jax Show

Imo the show dropped off significantly after episode 4. Like maybe ep 2 and 3 arent the most memorable but theyre fun and episode 4 is imo the best episode in the series

I just don't get why a lot of people say that the 1st episode is the worst??? For me, it was the episode that had me hyped THE MOST. I love TADC but I honestly thought we were gonna get some psychological horror type of show when I saw the ending of the pilot

I feel like I'm the only one that actually liked what this show was going for on its terms and didn't get disappointed by it not being whatever I thought it was gonna be instead.

The circus itself barely gets brought up as a whole outside of this episode. Stakes were nonexistent up until like the very end, in which the problem was solved too quickly. Too much focus on characters. Tumblrslop

this whole sequence hyped the entire show up so much to a standard it did not reach

Fact there's no payoff to anything beyond initial mystery is actually impressive there's literally no reason to watch anything between episode 1 and 8/9 because nothing of consequence happens. You get complete story by skipping the entire show.

this video made me truly realize how much the animation has improved since lol

I like the foreshadowing with Kinger here.

the first episode is the worst one how did it peak there??

this made me realize that there were many more flaws than I initially saw with the show, im jax defender #1 but pomni gets nothing (one of the main characters btw) and second, this is supposed to be a psychological horror😭

@smittenseedly I forgot this is literally WHY people got hooked on tadc 😭 this is literally all people would talk about in relation to the episode when it first came out- NOTHING about the rest of the episode at all just the ending

It was a good framework but needed writers that actually knew how to write lmao the concept was good though, it’d be neat if someone down the line took and remixed it in some way

I don’t want to be negative (because I do like the show) but it’s a serious problem when the pilot is the best episode of a series. The Disney show “hailey's on it” is another perfect example of that.

episode 1 is like chainsaw man part 1 and the rest is like chainsaw man part 2 to me excellent story as it was that could've ended and everyone would be happy but then it kept getting added on to and eventually just kinda ruined the magic

the show could have unironically ended here and nothing would be different

Kinda but not really. The pilot did an amazing job with the setting but anyone who knows about writing understands you cant carry a story on setting alone and you need to have interesting characters. They made the right pivot

reminds me a little of hazbin hotel, in that it has really good promise and a lot of potential, but then it set itself up to be something it wasn't and it's original audience lost interest. i think TADC is a good show, great in fact, but it's pilot was misleading

if goose produced it in a traditional professional setting i wonder how much different itd be

I can’t even lie I agree, the rest of the episodes doesnt feel impactful like the pilot did

I know I'm not the only one saying this, but I really wish they kept the "worse" animation from the pilot, it nailed the whole "this is a computer game from the 90's" aesthetic

"Since when were you the expert on the digital world?"

I liked episode 3 but the rest is pretty mid imo, I think they didn’t have nearly enough episodes to flesh out the characters and they focused way too much on the worst one (Jax), idk, I feel like this show really just couldn’t stick it.

Genuinely is there even any payoff to the fact they’re in a computer. Like did they just accept they’re stuck forever in it lmfao

I’m gonna tmi but this scenes my favorite. The music really captures the feeling of existential dread especially with the focus on pomni, and when I saw this at first a few weeks back I had a panic attack at my 16th birthday bc I didn’t want to grow up and thought about death constantly. It felt like this before I broke down
