I just realized this but Peckinpah launching into a boulder, causing it to change his trajectory, is what gave Red the idea to launch himself to the top of one and get to the castle. You can see his face light up as he visibly realizes the epiphany. Judge Power is a plot point.

The way the emotion is slowly building up, as he is going down that list, his voice cracking a bit, his hands shaking. "A single person is missing for you, and the whole world is empty" So yes he got through that speech without crying (barely), but not without beautifully opening his heart up to us before, and showing just how much he loves him 💓
