Autonomous snake like robots to explore the icy worlds of Saturn’s moon

It’s weird we have all these theories of how we’d react if aliens showed up but imagine being a civilization on the receiving end of a probe that looks like this thing.. you’d be terrified of whatever was on the other side 😅

It looks more like it'll explore Uranus. I'm sorry, I had to do that.

Why don't they use this to explore our polar regions first? Surely there are things undiscovered yet.

You know NASA’s Cassini mission did actually reveal the presence of vital components for life on Saturn’s icy moon known as Enceladus in an article I read. Based on data from Cassini, experts have identified crucial organic compounds and a potent energy source, hinting at the moon’s potential to support life. But how true is that? Let’s see till then.

Inspired by the capabilities of real snakes, robots can reach places humans couldn't, such as people trapped in the rubble of a collapsed building.

Extended video — Testing Out JPL’s New Snake Robot A team at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory is creating and testing a snake-like robot called EELS (Exobiology Extant Life Surveyor). This versatile robot is being developed to autonomously map, traverse, and explore previously inaccessible destinations on Earth, the Moon, and other worlds in our solar system. The robot has been put to the test in sandy, snowy, and icy environments, including the Mars-like terrain at JPL’s Mars Yard, a “robot playground” created at a ski resort in the snowy mountains of Southern California, and even an indoor ice rink.
