One of the most powerful moments in this episode. At 28, mark pincus finds himself unemployed (fired by John Malone, Bain, and others), with few prospects. He had big dreams, but the world wasn't cooperating. This is how he turned things around. what "I realized I had nowhere else to fall from this because I just felt like I’d made a lot of bad career decisions and I was washed up early and I just sat there in this temple." It was a good place to sit and think because he didn't know anyone and didn't understand anything. "And I just started writing in a notebook about why my life sucked so badly." This book, a journal he's kept every year that he calls the book of life, allows him to take an accurate accounting of his life and change his mindset through reflection. After writing for hours about how bad his life sucked and all the mistakes he'd made, he focused on one small thing. "I just ended on this one thing: that I smoked cigarettes. I didn’t even smoke smoke. I smoked like one or two a day, a pack a night if I was at a bar on weekends, but I hated it ... I didn’t want to do it, but I kept doing it." He felt like his life was out of control, but this was one thing he could control. "I just was like, if I could do one thing to know that I’m making some positive change in my life, I’m going to quit smoking. So on October 19th, 1994, I did a lifetime quit on cigarettes and then every day for that year after that, that I didn’t smoke, it was something I could feel good about. So I was like, okay, I did something for myself today by not smoking." The wins started to stack. I asked him what he was writing about. What was his process? "At that point, I had no structure or process. I was just writing, and there was so much in me." Was it anger? "It was. I did feel angry and frustrated and I was like, I had all these dreams. I wanted to be an entrepreneur from early on and I was an achiever. I thought I was an achiever, but I was not achieving." He's done the same technique every year: "What it’s done for me and I think it could do for a lot of people is just be strategic about your life, like be thoughtful about, I like to say, what would your future self thank you for doing this year and what wouldn’t?" And that question is the one that really matters. What can you do today that your future self will thank you for? What the book of life did was hold him accountable and force him to make tough decisions that his future self would thank him for.

I'm recovering from surgery and decided to watch the Green Lantern. I've never seen it before and wanted to see if it really is as bad as every says it it - it is! But I noticed that about 30 mins into the film, there's a scene where Lively and Reynolds characters dance in a bar in an almost identical way to the slow dance scene from IEWU. The only difference is the characters were talking Could it be possible that Lively was trying to recreate the scene to be similar to the scene she did with her husband when she fell in love with him? Did she rewrite the scene to mirror the details of the dance? Is this what she means when she says her husband is "all over this movie"? Did Reynolds see this and get jealous because it hit a nerve? *side observation - she's rubbing her hands all over him and not intimacy coordinator is around

The translator Anton Hur shared a story about how RM “saves” the Korean literature and about his impact on publishers and sales. 👦🏻 My favorite live-saving, Namjoon story that I have is that…so a long time ago, I picked up this book by Lee Seong Bok about their aphorisms, about his poetry writing, about his poetics. It’s a very obscure topic, who reads about poetics?! But I read this book, it’s called ‘Indeterminate Inflorescence’ and I loved it! I was like, ‘Oh this is the life book, it’s like it contains all of my artistic ambitions in this one book but no one is going to publish it because no one is going to allow me to translate a book about Korean poetics so but I did find one publisher, it’s not even in New York, it’s in Seattle…And one tiny publisher that said ‘Okay, we’ll publish this book’, and then, a month before this book was supposed to come out, Namjoon posted about the aphorisms by Lee Seong Bok and when I saw that I thought like the angels were singing in the heaven and like manna was raining on me…I could not believe that this was happening and then like the first print got sold out, the second, the third got sold out. This tiny book that you know, it wasn’t a hit in Korea, it was like completely obscure. When I mentioned in Korea people were like ‘Lee Seong Bok wrote a book about aphorisms?’ like even if they know who Lee Seong Bok is…And now we have a, I think they’ll allow me to announce it but we have a deal for Lee Seong Bok’s poetry collection that summer’s end, that also Namjoon posted so I’m just so grateful to RM for saving Korean literature! 🔗 🔗 #RM #방탄소년단RM #김남준 #BTSRM

I used to take my family to a park by us and they had a very shallow pool for the kids there. It was maybe around 1.5 feet deep so I’m not even sure if it could be even considered a swimming pool, it was more of a splash zone for the kids. Everybody still had fun and I saw people just cooling their feet off in it. Every so often I would see a kid who had a life jacket on and it was the oddest thing I ever saw. The water was barely to their knees and they still were forced to wear a life jacket by some over protective parent. I don’t think she cared how silly it looked but I don’t think her kid was going to drown in a foot and a half of water. Some other kids that were older walked by and saw the same thing and started making fun of the boy with the life jacket on. His mom was probably worst in her tendencies than what we saw there that day but the kid had enough and he took his life jacket off and threw it to the side. She immediately started screaming for him to put it back on and it was there for his protection. The two went back and forth for a minute or so and at this point she’s had enough of his insubordination and the two packed up and left. That was the first and the last time I ever saw anything like that but I can almost guarantee she’s far worse at home in her controlling nature. I know people will always see their kids as their babies but sometimes they take it too far.

Freen is… Fuang thinks she’s very detailed by nature. I have to say she’s very very detailed. She’s sensitive and sensitive to her surroundings. That’s a personal trait that impacts one’s acting (she talked about this in the start.) she cares tremendously about people around her. For example, I’m talking to Becky in a corner and Freen is doing makeup in another. But she knows what we’re talking about, takes in the details, and turns to congratulate me. She’s very in the present. She’s in the moment with everything all the time. Therefore her ‘detailed’ reactions/acting that we see, it’s because she absorbes everything around her. And our eyes are the window to our hearts. So this is the case of a personal trait affecting one’s acting. That’s one thing. More importantly, along the way, Freen found a way to enhance / add to that. Did Fuang helped bring her there? Maybe or maybe I don’t dare to claim that. For example, in some scenes she can do them well already, but I helped add in more details. I told her your character didn’t just hear that.. listen carefully, there are this and that details. And when she saw/realized that there were more than what she was initially aware of-like from 70% to 90%-just that, her acting will be even more detailed. Your eyes will show what you see or become aware of. If you ask, that’s all Fuang added on. The rest, she was able to do it on her own. This I was I meant by saying that the job of an acting coach is to pull out each actor’s skill. Because she could already it. It was Al Pacino's idea to remake the original 1932 version of Scarface. He saw the film and was so inspired by Paul Muni's performance, he wanted to recreate that iconic role in his own way. As he explains: "I had heard about Scarface for a long time because I was working on a play by Bertolt Brecht called Arturo Ui, which was very influenced by the American gangster picture. And I heard, even as a kid, I remember my relatives talking about Scarface and how George Raft flips the half dollar. And so I had heard a lot about it and never saw the picture. So I was one day walking along Sunset Boulevard of all places, and there was the — I believe it's the Tiffany Theatre now — and it was playing in a double bill with something else, I forget, was Scarface. And there was a few of us, so I said, well, why don't we just go and take a look at it? And we went in and it was, you know, an astounding movie, astounding. And the performance of Paul Muni was astounding and inspiring. And I thought after that, that I just wanted to imitate him. I wanted to do something. I was inspired by that performance. And I called Marty Bregman (Al's producer), who then put together some people and they started working on developing this as a film."

TV critic and broadcaster Scott Bryan joined BBC Breakfast this morning to speak about the autism representation in 'Heated Rivalry' ❤️ "Heated Rivalry, which is of course a word-of-mouth hit […] I think it’s a show that really resonated for a quite few reasons […] It depicted neurodivergence; many people picking up one of the characters in the drama, played by Shane, is autistic. I think it highlighted the traits that he was experiencing in a really grounded way, but also highlighted all of the other parts of his personality as well. His autism wasn’t the only thing we learnt about him. I think for myself, I found out I was autistic only a couple of years ago, and this was the first depiction of autism on TV that I saw to be really quite relatable and realistic, and I know for a lot of other people they found it to be the same way."
