For my money it was always impact to waist high past the ball with Hogan. So distinct and beautiful! If you can drag the handle this far past the ball and still have speed you are going to need a lot of sunscreen! There’s no shade out in the middle !

This umpire initially called the runner coming home out. The catcher drops the ball and then the umpire rules him safe because of the dropped ball. Then the catcher after a couple of seconds goes and tags the runner and the umpire calls him out. I don’t know what game the umpire is watching but it clearly isn’t this one. And I don’t know where he received his training. After the catcher dropped the ball, if he thought the runner didn’t touch home he should have made no call. But clearly he does. What do you think? Was he safe or out?

Anthony Volpe can do amazing things like this. The frustrating thing about him, though, is that he will then botch a routine play by throwing a ball away or meekly ground out when he’s ahead in the count. The Yankees have given him every opportunity to succeed, and he just can’t get out of his own way when the ability is there.

At some point when reviewing plays, the league should consider adding a speed threshold for anything involving the element of time. When you slow plays down to 1/100th the speed, it distorts what actually happened and makes it look like, in this case, Cooks possessed the ball for seconds prior to losing it. The game is not played in slow motion or frame by frame. For a catch: A) Secure control of the ball ✅ B) Two feet down in bounds ✅ C) After (a) and (b) have been fulfilled, clearly performs any act common to the game (e.g., extend the ball forward, take an additional step, tuck the ball away and turn upfield, or avoid or ward off an opponent), or he maintains control of the ball long enough to do so. C is where there is a judgement needed since A and B are clearly met. Now consider this note to the rule: If a player, who satisfied (a) and (b), but has not satisfied (c), contacts the ground and loses control of the ball, it is an incomplete pass if the ball hits the ground before he regains control, or if he regains control out of bounds. Because Cooks did lose control of the ball when he contacted the ground and the ball never contacted the ground, it was ruled an interception by Denver.

Sprinting to gap is key. We don’t want to jump to the ball we want to sprint towards the ball. Like you are stealing first to second base you want to cross step first covering lots of ground and then into a sprint if needed. This drill is called- close out to cross step

i didnt survive the ground here. Mathis poked the ball out. I regained access and ACTED like nothing happened— Took a peak at ref— to confirm he didn’t see. Then, got rid of the evidence. This how I know Mims didn’t “survive the ground” He threw ref off by ACTING hurt 😆🃏

This is why you make a play on the ball to the best of your ability, then see if there was a foul or ground rule double. Especially when there’s an obvious gap between the ball and the wall. The umpire's reaction was hilarious though: totally made the clip for me. Looks like C.B Bucknor
