The Canadians use an winch on board the helo to connect to the deck, then the pilot puts the helo into a lift condition that maintains constant distance to the deck as the winch takes it down to the deck.

Follow for more huge deals 🚨 They go fast, just like this one...

Hover focused on the horizon not the moving ship only peak at the ship for alignment. once over the landing spot, don't be cute... stick it solidly down. Upon touchdown, lower collective power completely so aircraft weight holds it in place. Don't dance with the deck on the wheels/skids!

Try it under goggles! It sucks, sucks is not even close to the word for it!

I salute wildly. I worked Trauma ER for a major metro med center. We would get rescue med evacs from sea. Watching those black hawks come in and land was thrilling every time. The skill and precision-awesome.

And a lot of skill

Yup... No winch?

Larry Ellison and his cronies had a sailing adventure in the south Pacific near Australia - ran into a hurricane. The Aussie helo pilots had to turn off auto pilot so they could get beneath the waves to rescue - it was said

Patience, skill, nervs and focus made of steel 🤙🙏

The boat we initially trained naval aviators for this in times past is now a restaurant in New York City:

One of our neighbors has and flies Helos. He loaded one up on a trailer and went to WNC after Helene to drop in supplies.
