The principal at my boys' elementary school is like this. The only time I've seen him in his office was when he was with a parent and/or student. He knows all the kids by name, he interacts with them, and is absolutely wonderful. And I really feel for him too because after putting up with our kids all day at school, he leaves to go home and change, then to coach little league (whatever sport is in season).
