You give me a bad service, you get a zero tip, especially those Cape Town waiters, who judge customers. If you complain about my tip I will demand my tip back and only pay the actual bill

Tipping must be voluntary best practice not mandatory. Entitlement is the reason why customers are facing terrible attitudes at some of these restaurants. One must inspire a tip thru good service. You serve me well I tip you well, you serve me horribly, you get nothing. Simple.

@HerbertHamilton Whenever I go to a restaurant, I don’t tip on the bill and pay with a card. I always have between R50 and R100 in my pocket. So I give the waitress. That money helps them on that specific day to pay for transport and get some tomatoes and onions for home.

I've been a waitress in my 20s and I would be grateful for each and every tip I got..I was a struggling student..all I can say is msunu wa that guy for asking for a R200 tip.. People tip you for your services not because they have to wtf

Honestly speaking I’m a waiter myself and sometimes guests ask me if they should put tip or not? I always tell them a tip should come from a good heart and it’s up to you how much do you tip despite the amazing service I gave you.

Absolutely, 💯! It’s a tip not a salary, no %% apply, fuck that shit ! South Africa is governed by labour laws for that reason. Cheap labour is criminal, restauranteurs need to adhere to labour laws - they’ve been getting away with a lot of nonsense.

Why don’t restaurants just bake the tips into the prices of the food? So we can get rid of this tipping culture.

I'm a service worker myself I know that tips really go a long way. However tipping is not an obligation. The employer is fully responsible for their employees salary. Never stop tipping though.

In SA, waiters don’t earn salaries from the restaurant. That’s the common practice. If you choose to frequent restaurants, keep this in mind and budget accordingly otherwise you’re just exploiting someone who’s there to earn a living

I choose the amount I tip, call me whatever, ultimately I do what makes me happy. Either what I want to tip or 0% tip, your choice. SA must just change it's rules around labour, people must be paid by their employers.

As a student and non-drinker, my son worked as a barman at night AND had to cash up and lock up on his own and earned R1000 per month IF he was lucky.

A tip is 10% of the bill. Most waiters don’t get any salary so the tip is the salary.

I once worked for a restaurant that later change to say we will get paid for 4 hours and work 6 for tips. Everyone agreed but I refused to do that. The manager said everyone has agreed so we will all do it, I stood my groud. in the end I was the only one getting a full salary.
