This tip really changed my background/environment making game, it speeds up de process a TON so I hope it helps! It works for both PS and CSP (sometimes requires a powerful PC)

Smart object on photoshop. on any layer right-click> "create new smart" object. then double-click on it. it will open the layer on a new window. save and the layer will be updated on the main project.

this probably could work on ibis paint (saying this as someone who uses ibis paint) as well you just cant do the editing the original file to change it thing

People really sleep on the utility of the "Place Linked/Embedded" tool on Photoshop.
