No, that’s how they put new ties in and straighten the tracks. Has nothing to do with blast debris🤣🤣🤣

Blast debris? WTF is that? This is an undercutter it removes ballast cleans it removes dirt and broken rock and adds new ,after this the ballast is tamped

This is a ballast cleaning machine which removes crushed ballast and fines along with any other contamination, and returns good clean stone to the track, can also be used in total excavation mode and remove all ballast from the track if too badly contaminated

Poor video, does not show complete process of cleaning the stone, putting it back, compacting and finished product.

Wouldn't that be ballast debris?

That's the stupidest thing I've seen for a while. I knew Indians have bad relationships with trains but this is on another level.

It’s called an undercutter

It’s a ballast cleaner, we used it regularly with British rail in the 80’s

It’s call an undercutter. It’s used to remove poor ballast or mud and then new ballast is dumped the lifted, tamped and “broomed” with a ballast regulator. Depending on the area/conditions they may run a stabilizer unit over the site to simulate tonnage travelling over the site

Is it taking the structural support from underneath the track though?

Ballast looks pretty clean, would love to see what would happen if there was mud

One question. Why undercut perfectly good ballast

looks like a Plasser RM80 ballast undercutter. I worked for a year on a larger version of this machine machine.

impressive; had a RR job one summer “nipping ties” with a crew of six men, shovels, ice tongs, eight foot long crow bars. The job was to pull spikes, dig out the stubborn heavy gravel, jump on the crow bars to lift the rails, pull out the tie, replace, fill, spike, repeat 8 hrs
