Follow the Qat trail. The Turkish vessel Lutuf,hijacked by pirates on Monday,was carrying communications and satellite equipment reportedly destined for a Turkish missile-testing facility at Warshikh on Somalia’s Indian Ocean coast. After seizing the vessel,the pirates moved it to a concealed position along the Puntland coast,anchoring it between two mountainous formations that made it difficult to detect from the air. Turkish drones searching for the Lutuf were initially unable to pinpoint its exact location. The breakthrough reportedly came on Tuesday,when surveillance drones spotted a small boat carrying two men heading out to sea from the coast. The drones followed the boat until it approached the Lutuf, apparently to deliver Qat to the pirates on board. As the boat subsequently headed back toward shore,it was struck by a Turkish drone. Four men were reportedly killed in the strike,including two pirates who had disembarked from the Lutuf and boarded the small boat. (Warshikh site below)
