This video captures exactly why our shared reality is breaking. Andrew hesitates because he knows he lacks context, Nick insists that hesitation itself is a weakness and that any gut reaction should be defended on sight. Thie exchange explains a lot about the post-fact world we are stuck in....

He keeps saying 89% of Somalians are doing fraud What he means to say is of the people arrested and charged with crimes of those people 89% of those criminals were Somali He’s so dumb he thinks because a group of people were arrested and of all those people 89% were Somalian. He then thinks that 89% of all Somalians in the whole world are committing fraud. It’s actually insane to listen to him try to defend his position without knowing how numbers work If 10 people are arrested for fraud and 9 of them are Somalian that means 90% of those arrested -are Somalian It does not mean that 90% of Somalians on earth are committing fraud Nick’s IQ is less than 70

I don’t think that’s quite right. If you had asked this guy what pit bulls are known for, or what bees are known for, I think he would have been able to answer very quickly and very succinctly. And I think he also knows what Somalians are known for. But the reason he didn’t answer the question is because it’s politically incorrect. Even though we know that bees do not only* sting people, and we understand that many pit bulls do not bite people, we also know that bees and pit bulls are known FOR certain things. It seems to me the only time we act like we don’t know and play dumb is when it’s a matter of political correctness. Also, there’s a difference between **knowing what something is known for** and **agreeing that what it’s known for is right.** It doesn’t follow that just because Somalians are known for piracy, that that’s a justified presumption. But this guy is so afraid to even talk about the stereotype that he can’t even get into the real question, which is whether the stereotype is justified.

Have you seen Andrew Callaghan's other stuff? Many people are definitely afraid of saying the "politically incorrect" thing but he certainly isn't one of them. In fact, he literally says it. Multiple times. But the reason for the caveat is that he knows this is the extent of Nick's knowledge. He knows he will take this and run with it as if it gives credence to his points. The point is: yeah, Captain Phillips, but this is pretty much all I know and obviously that's not enough information to actually form an opinion about a group of people especially considering it's literally just a Hollywood movie.

I can admit the Swiss are known for watches and also know that doesn’t mean that all Swiss people make watches, in fact it might be the case none of them do. Do you really think he doesn’t know what Somalis are known for and he’s that ignorant?

Andrew is literally the one that says what they're known for first. He brings up Captain Phillips. Not Nick.

Фото профиля Darwin to Jesus

He says “captain phillips” not piracy, and that’s only after being probed for an answer because he’s stalling to answer the question. Why do you think he didn’t just say “piracy?”

Фото профиля Dylan Allman
Dylan Allman8 месяцев назад

Because that wasn't what was at the top of his mind? Nick says "You already said it" referring to Andrew's "Captain Phillips" comment (which he said immediately), implying that it is synonymous with pirates. I don't think your case is very strong here. I'm simply suggesting we not ruthlessly defend our gut to the detriment of our own intellectual development.

Фото профиля Darwin to Jesus

At no point did he admit they’re known for piracy, he says they’re known for a role in a movie. You’re confusing defending your gut with being honest about your gut. I can honesty report my gut reaction to something (unlike this dude who refused to) that doesn’t mean I am defending what my gut says. This is not the same thing. That’s my point. This guy should just be honest about how Somalis are perceived and if he disagrees with the perception make a case, instead of just playing dumb.

Have you seen Captain Phillips? It's literally a movie about Somali pirates. He was upfront, honest, and very clearly not playing dumb. Are we watching the same video?

He’s obsessed with Somalis because he’s managed to enrich himself by making claims about daycares taking government money and having no kids enrolled. That is inaccurate and yet he continues to spread this as a fact even though state regulators have confirmed the daycare have children enrolled and two of the ones featured in his video weren’t even running as a daycare anymore. To date, no fraud has been confirmed & he’s failed to update his audience on these findings or correct any of his mistakes whilst opening up these businesses to mass harassment and abuse.

1) this kid's family literally stole millions of dollars from gyms and health spas and had to declare bankruptcy when they couldn't pay them back. 2) Andrew brought up Mormon bigamy and he just instantly dismissed it as a 'stereotype' after saying Muslims had multiple wives.

The shared reality breaking is because of intentional manipulation of events when broadcasted. In this video Nick lays out how the interview released by the guy he is talking to was edited to change the message and the outcome of the discussions

Andrew also predictably does what many do in these modern "debates": parroting the question with the opponent's group inserted ("Well what are AMERICANS known for?"). Regardless, "P is true because I assert it with confidence" and "P is false because its believers are hypocrites and/or bigots" are both logical fallacies.

Фото профиля Dylan Allman
Dylan Allman8 месяцев назад

I don't think he's suggesting that "P is false." I think it's pretty clear he's asserting that he just simply does not have enough information to give a substantive opinion. And the point of highlighting the American stereotype is to illustrate the shallowness of stereotypes as an attempt to justify his reluctance to entirely rely on one.

Andrew demonstrates humility and admits that he doesn't know enough to hold a strong opinion. Nick demonstrates ignorance and an unwillingness to use critical thought. If we can't agree that Andrew is the better model of behavior, then we are doomed.

Nope. He's proving the simple poing of people decieving themselves of a basic known norm because they are afraid to simply give their opinion, and that fear is driven by leftist social agendas. Stereotype are stereotypes for a reason. Somalians are known for piracy. This is a basic norm. There is nothing wrong with saying so. It's not the same as saying all Somalians are pirates, but Andrew's higher reasoning has been hijacked by fear and so he no longer knows the difference. To him the stereotype is equal to racism. It's not, and he is literally retarded in this moment because of this fear he has adopted.

If Nick understood that “what we know them for” is a useless and misleading metric when 99% of our knowledge comes from tv and “news,” they could’ve met halfway. But he won’t, ever. Americans are known for being fat and stupid. But with like a trillion times more evidence.

I think the most illuminating quote here is "Why do you question your thought?" from Nick. That lack of curiosity and humility that is the foundation of critical thinking, the ability to ask yourself "why do I think this, do I have solid basis for it" is the whole problem.

I think the presenter is on to something big, but where I disagree with her is that she accuses African leaders and gives a subtle pass to African citizens. It is not true that African citizens were oblivious to what Trump or Epstein are. They knew, but they simply did not have the ability to think critically that when Trump talks about LGBT issues, it is not necessarily that he does not support them, but that he understood there is a group of foolish people out there who would buy into that rhetoric without interrogating why he was deploying it. Some of Trump’s best friends, like Peter Mandelson, are gay, yet some Africans were foolish enough to believe that Trump is anti-gay. He simply understood how human beings operate, that there are times when people fail to think, a tragic failure to think, and they just go with the flow. If you ask Africans today what they gained from the perceived homophobia that Trump projected, which we know was political theatre targeted at a particular audience, they will not be able to tell you. Trump might be many things to many people. I do not like him and everybody knows that, but the one thing I respect him for is that he understands his audience. He knows what to say when he is talking to foolish people. He knows what to say when he is talking to idiotic people. He knows what to say when he is talking to sycophants. He knows what to say when he is talking to people who do not understand the world of politics, and he gets away with it. And for that, I give it to him. He becomes a political superstar precisely because you then have black people in Africa supporting him. That in itself shows you the scale of political illiteracy that exists, where people rally behind rhetoric crafted to manipulate them, not to advance their interests.

Arteta on his role to re-energise the Arsenal team. 💪 “Certainly, when you lose a game, you have a lot of feelings because, especially, this group of players are so competitive and they seek for excellence and when you don't reach it, you ask yourself questions, and we did that. “But I think my role there as well is to bring optimism and reality about where we are, and yeah, our club has a long history. And to find a moment where, in February, we're in the position that we are, is very difficult to find. So guys, we are doing so many things so well, and let's focus mainly on that. And for sure, we want to improve, we want to be better in every area, but with that sense as well of self-confidence and conviction that we are in the right path. Anyone need to lift Arteta? “No, in these moments, no. Normally, I'm the opposite and when we are doing so well, I'm there with a stick to say, 'This is not good enough,' 'This is not good enough.' The other day, no, because I know how much they wanted the amount of games and the demands that we put on those players every day. “In those moments, they need to understand and feel that we are right behind them. I'm mainly responsible for that and they keep playing with that freedom, with that enjoyment, as I discussed the other day, and I make sure that that journey is beautiful because what is ahead is great and everybody has to be part of that but in a good sense and with good humor and with good optimism and looking forward to it.”

Matt Damon participated in Howard Zinn's great "The People Speak" series, and read out a great speech by Zinn about the importance of civil disobedience, which is as apt today as when he first wrote it in 1970: "I start from the supposition that the world is topsy-turvy, that things are all wrong, that the wrong people are in jail, and the wrong people are out of jail. That the wrong people are in power, and the wrong people are out of power. I start from the supposition that all we have to do is think about the state of the world today, and realize that things are all upside down. If you don't think, if you listen to TV, read scholarly things, you actually begin to think that things are not so bad. Or that just little things are wrong. But you have to get a little detached, and then come back and look at the world, and you are horrified. So we have to start from that supposition—that things are really topsy-turvy. And our topic is topsy-turvy: civil disobedience. As soon as you say the topic is civil disobedience, you are saying our problem is civil disobedience. That is not our problem…. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is the numbers of people all over the world who have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience. And our problem is that scene in All Quiet on the Western Front where the schoolboys march off dutifully in a line to war. Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world, in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves, and all the while the grand thieves are running the country. That’s our problem."

Steve Jobs on how to build a great brand After re-joining Apple in 1996, Steve Jobs announced the “Think different” campaign with the following statement: “To me, marketing is about values. This is a very complicated and noisy world. We’re not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. No company is. So we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us.” He cites Nike as one of the greatest jobs of marketing the universe has ever seen: “Remember, Nike sells a commodity—they sell shoes! And yet when you think of Nike, you feel something different than a shoe company. In their ads, they don’t ever talk about the product. They don’t ever tell you about their air soles and why they are better than Reebok’s air soles. What does Nike do in their advertising? They honor great athletes, and they honor great athletics. That’s who they are, that’s what they are about.” Marketing guru Seth Godin also used Nike as an example of great branding in a blog post a few years ago: “If Nike announced that they were opening a hotel, you’d have a pretty good guess about what it would be like. But if Hyatt announced that they were going to start making shoes, you would have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER what those shoes would be like. That’s because Nike owns a brand and Hyatt simply owns real estate.” Jobs goes on to explain how the Apple team arrived at the “Think Different” campaign: “Our customers want to know who is Apple and what is it that we stand for. Where do we fit in this world? What we’re about isn’t making boxes for people to get their jobs done—although we do that well. We do that better than almost anybody, in some cases. But Apple is about something more than that. Apple at the core—its core value—is that we believe people with passion can change the world for the better… And that those people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones who actually do.” He continues: “And so, what we’re going to do in our first brand marketing campaign in several years is to get back to that core value. A lot of things have changed. The market is in a totally different place than it was a decade ago, and Apple is totally different… the products and the distribution strategy and the manufacturing are totally different. And we understand that. But values and core values—those things shouldn’t change. The things that Apple believed in, at its core, are the same things that Apple really stands for today.” Apple’s “Think Different” campaign was designed to honor those people who have changed the world. And as Jobs so eloquently put it: “Some of them are living. Some of them are not. But the ones that aren’t, you’ll know that if they ever used a computer, it would’ve been a Mac. The theme of the campaign is ‘Think Different.’ It’s honoring the people who think different and who move this world forward. And it is what we are about. It touches the soul of this company.” If you’re looking to create a great brand, I’d start out by asking: what are your core values and what does your company honor?

THEY SAY MALEMA SCARES PEOPLE BECAUSE HE CHALLENGES STATUS QUO; MEDIA TWISTS HIS WORDS, PORTRAYING HIM IN A BAD LIGHT; I HAVE A LOT OF RESPECT FOR Julius Sello Malema AND PEOPLE SHOULD LISTEN TO WHAT HE SAYS “Not only is Julius Malema an extremely intelligent human being; he is a brilliant politician. White people fear him for two reasons. First, media portrays Julius in a very specific way. They will take things that he has said out of context, and say look at this crazy person. How dare he… When you actually go listen to what he said, he makes sense. Second reason that white people fear Julius is that he questions the status quo. He is actively fighting to change what is going on in this country, and a lot of white people are very comfortable with what’s going on in this country. They have power, they have privilege, they have everything that they want. I don’t mean individual white people — before you come here and say ‘I don’t have a job’ — if it doesn’t apply to you, just shut up and listen, because when we talk about privilege, particularly white privilege, we talk about a response that people have to you, socially. Before we talk about positions or whatnot, we talk about our response, socially; the assumption that a white person is more educated; the assumption that a white person has more moral values; and acts more ethically. So, yeah, Malema scares people, because he challenges the status quo, and because he’s been portrayed in a very specific light. I have a lot of respect for Julius Malema and I think more people should listen to what he has to say.” **Watch Both**
