Easily. Oh, Franklin Roosevelt, who was one of the greatest figures in the Democratic Party history, in 1932 he said to the American people, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself." And the reason he said that is because he saw what was happening in Europe at that time. The Great Depression had leveled the United States' economy; it was staggering. And he saw the rise of demagogues all over the world, and they were using fear to get people—citizens of those democracies—to abandon their values and to vote to give up their rights and to vote for somebody that they otherwise didn't want to vote for. He saw the power of fear and how damaging it was for democracy. And that's something we need to remember today.
