Chechnya’s first President Dzhokhar Dudayev speaking about why Russia invaded his country. He was killed in a Russian airstrike in 1996. Dudayev was born in 1944, just days before his family and all Chechens were deported by force to Central Asia. 1/3 of the Chechen population was killed during the Chechen genocide in 1944 and the following years The Chechens were allowed to return first after Stalin’s death.
