This video was a complete joy to make. Here's a short preview, but next time you're looking to sit down for 45 minutes of math and art, take a look at the full version on YouTube.

Love the math behind it. Years ago there was a website explaining it all. They also created a video, and if I remember correctly you could alter a number and the whole video changed. Maybe this was that story:

The empty space is to disguise where the scene won't "lie flat." Compare the hairs from the hairy ball theorem that won't lie down. Now, if he had painted the scene on a donut, he wouldn't have needed to disguise the hole, maybe?

We have used AI to complete the center, following the math principles. See more at @ArtRestoreAI

Oh man, my favourite content creator makes a video about my favorite artist?!

I'd love to see this with a dimension of time added to the picture. Imagine that instead of zooming on a picture, you zoom into a video and you drift the lag of each warped scene according to some measurement of the deformation in phase space.

What should I type on YT to find the full video?

I wish I was smart enough to fully understand your videos.

Excellent video, but I hate the new clickbait slop title. Also, some parts of your script towards the end of the video reek of llm-speak. 2026 llms are significantly worse than you at writing, so don't let them near your script. Even slight changes are noticeable.

One of the best video i have seen so far thanks @3blue1brown for this learnt a lot of new things Byw in what situation how would u know that if a log transform will help to improve image or it will fail to improve Is it depends on data span ? Or something else or it is completely different ? sorry for naive question in advance Thanks a lot again man

That would be a perfect talk for our conference on scientific illustration and the relationship between art and mathematics

pretty sure I prefer the original version that doesn't have the center filled in. it completes the effect in the same way not having an infinite canvas does

I felt this emotion of awe after watching your video on holograms, but this is even more amazing. But now I am wondering how would this look like projected on hologram ? Thank you very much for theese amazing videos.

this man simply does not miss

This video was so absolutely amazing , I felt motivated to do a shader of a raymarched scene with that effect: Thanks a lot for your content, Grant 🤩🤩!!

Truly excellent Grant, many thanks. Up there with your holograms video.

Watched this yesterday and I'm still thinking about it

👏

one of my favorite videos on the internet

Will you look at Gödel and Bach next?

But I do not know why I saw lattices XD

Nice, it was also one the many concepts expore in Goedel Escher Bach

Simply amazing content, as usual.

You have some of the best videos on YouTube. IMHO. Thanks for all the years of quality content! Escher....wow!

One of your best videos!

Already did. And it was an utter joy to watch.

Watched this morning. Lifelong Escher fan. I appreciate his work even more after this vid. Great work.

awesome

This video was a joy to watch.

I'm looking forward to checking out the full video. Combining math and art is such a creative approach. Well done!

clever level of lovely achieved

As Eric Weinstein said, this account should be a national treasure protected at a high level as precious resource

Great video!

One of the best written and best produced math videos I’ve seen in a long time. It’s rare a person can so effectively demonstrate the genius of an artist. You’ve taken an unintuitive topic and made the conclusion feel natural. There’s a special brilliance in that gift
