If this inflates someone's ego, sure. Now the ego can feel special for suffering due to its self perceived intelligence. Sorry, intelligence that causes itself suffering is stupidity.

So what's the story with the handheld light?

Sorry, that’s not what he meant. Intelligent people see the world for the broken mess it is, but ignorance really is bliss. If you’re smart, dealing with everyone else is the most depressing thing you can do.

Solomon said, For in much wisdom is much grief, And he who increases knowledge increases sorrow. -Ecclesiastes 1:18

No -wisdom comes from the thrownroom of God. It is not achieved through pain. God never said we wouldn’t suffer , he said we would, but if we endure and we persevere… it’s a great life. God will never give us more than we can handle. So when you are about to give up… remember you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength. Pain is not the answer or the way to train anyone either. If you don’t believe in God then I suggest you forgive others and yourself and that will be the best way to overcome the pain associated with the human experience. Guard your heart for all things flow through it.

I actually think the suffering helps you ask bigger questions and develop deeper understanding
