Ive watched ball for my whole life and have zero clue what a balk is and how it’s enforced

Unfortunately this was a balk. Very subtle!! But a balk none the less. After toeing the rubber and then having that little back heel hezzy before stepping off he was cooked.

He flinched/hesitated before stepping off its a balk look at back leg

Not sure what the issue is, he moved his right leg before he stepped off the plate. Flinching while coming to a set is considered a balk

Not a missed call here (although there were many) but the game would’ve been tied on Cody Bellinger’s 9th inning three run homer if not for this “balk” call. If you’ve watched Camilo Doval a good bit, you know this is how he pitches out of the stretch and has been doing so for his whole career without any issue. The home plate umpire decided let’s call a balk because why not? 1 it’s not a balk and 2, that’s not his call. Listen to the way David Cone reacts. Just an utter disgrace top to bottom and someone needs to be held accountable.
