It was going on long before this. The late 80s through the 90s, there were areas girls couldn’t go in some inner city areas. I remember in my early teens, if that, in particular, not being able to go to a city centre park unless we were with boys. We’d be followed, accosted, propsitioned by older Pakistani men. We ran into a shop one time in fear only to be shooed back out by the shopkeeper. We ran home and never went to that park alone again. I remember Pakistani takeaways where girls, some younger than me, would constantly hang out with older men. They’d bunk off school to be there instead. I don’t know how well known the behaviour was in Pakistani communities but the ones I knew, in embarrassment maybe, either denied it or blamed the girls.

There will always be conceivable exceptions, but I will never take a South Asian person seriously. They are, by and large, too cowardly to confront issues within their own community or culture and tend to deny and/or lie through their back teeth.
