Jimmy had figured out his sound, and knew he could significantly upgrade at bass, drums, and lead vocal. Boy did he ever.

Not really. It’s the Yardbirds performing a song Zeppelin did 10X better.

No, this is Jimmy Page and his version of the Yardbirds.

A lot of Yardbirds slander on this thread. They were among the bands that created the sound of the "rock" music we know today. Are they as good as Zeppelin turned out to be? No, but who is?

Whole lotta love in 1962.

This is The Yardbirds. One of the best rosters of talent you’ll see from that era.

The yardbirds played a Catholic highscool graduation in Cincinnati.

Doing a Jake Holmes song.

Well except for the bass, drums and vocals it’s exactly the same.

Jimmy had “the sound” and brought that to the table. Led Zeppelin was a million times better.

Either the vocalist is having a bad night or he is indeed completely tone deaf.

I like the Yardbirds, but here, doing the same song, with the same guitarist as Zeppelin, you can see how much of an improvement Jimmy's next band really were. Keith Relf in particular I never much liked as a singer, is totally out of his depth.

Well, now we know where Prince got his fashion inspiration from.

Keith Relf's vocals were great on Heart Full Of Soul but this song needed vocals an octave higher.

Jake Holmes would like you to hold his beer

I love that this song is Jake Holmes cover, and when Jimmy created Led Zeppelin he just pretended HE WROTE IT. Led Zeppelin is the biggest fraud in modern music history. Stole absolutely everything.

Keith Relf. The worst singer of a great band.

Can really feel how much Bonzo leveled up over the years. The development of exceptionally complex drum fills, and a progressively much less nuanced, laid-back style, behind the beat. Fucking stud.

Yardbirds did contribute to interesting film BlowUp. I think it was Jeff Beck.

Shows u how much Bonzo and Plant made a difference

Not quite but close. Page reconstituted the Yardbirds with Plant, JPJ and Bonham and R&R history was forever changed. Yardbirds were good but I just done see them making a mark with Keith Relf on vocals compared to Plant.

that nigga entire voice range is one note 😭

They apparently played their first UK LZ gig as ‘New Yardbirds’ in Newcastle 🤷

Sort of like the Pink Floyd before the David Gilmore.

Oh yeah Jimmy had rights to the Yardbirds name because basically all the member left leaving him holding the bag. Zeppelin tour a few shows as the New Yardbirds out of contract obligations. So the kicked a name back and forth Keith Moon said something about one of the names would go over like a Lead Ballon, blah blah Led Zeppelin.

I saw the Yardbirds twice at the Cotillion Ballrom in Wichita. Jimmy Page once and Eric Clapton once.

Yardbirds. Zeppelin def kicked it up a few notches.

A lot of people in the comments don’t seem to understand that Led Zeppelin performed under the Yardbirds name and changed to their name to LZ after the new lineup had already formed around Oct 68.

It’s The Yardbirds.

The yardbirds created zeppelin. Will forever be zeppelins daddy.

Absolutely terrible

So Robert Plant saved the band

How this song called?

Er no, its the Yardbirds with Page, playing a cover of a song that Led Zeppelin would also cover, with a new arrangement
