My number one favorite movie of all time. Every frame is perfection.

A work of art.

I am always amazed at the special effects in this 1979 flick.

Really is some achievement.

@MtarfaL This 👇

Brilliant film the special effects are amazing. One of the best movies ever made.

large models often look more real than CGI.

This was made in 1969!

still a gorgeous film

Do you know the ONE Film that SHOULD be remade, or at least TOUCHED UP with Modern studio techniques? THE KEEP

A single spaceship built and shot with care dwarfs all the rushed-CGI-whatever-spaceship battles in the world. Change my mind.

it was made in 1978, released in 1979

Filming ended late 1978. Editing, including visuals and sound, continued to late January 1979. The final product which you see a clip of here was made 1979.

yeah, that sounds right, call it a draw?

😄 I was ready for it!

awesome ! enjoy your saturday

Alien. Captain Dallas.

I remember recognising some of the computer sequences when they were reused in Bladerunner.

You should see 1968.

Still looks better, realer and more lived in as a world-building exercise than anything made in the 21st century with computer, green screen, motion capture or AI assist. A real shame the organic quality of this was lost. Even Alien Romulus isn’t as good despite trying for the same vibe.

Looks better and more realistic than modern CGI

And your point? This was made not long after.

And it’s still perfect

@AustinJ9047916 If anything could use a fix it's the fake head scenes. I'm just surprised someone hasn't already done it with the tech available now.

@Y2John84 There’s only one or two bad spots. I feel you. But we let it slide. It’s too good

One of the best movies every made.. You have an alternative opinion at your site?

One of my all time top 10

Bring back "movie magic"

This was made in 1968

As was this....

This real spaceship rolled off Rockwell's factory floor in 1979. Nice work in both camps.

With no CGI assistance

Also 1979

Love Alien but the question was always in the back of my mind as to how they had gravity.

Meanwhile in the UK in 1979... 😂

Kubrik was the only one who could do practical space effects that looked real.

If you goto 4'20" and pause this scene from Blade Runner, the screen on the ship looks like very similar. I always wondered if it was the same footage. 🤔

Models will always look better. Especially in space. Star Trek TNG, DS9 all look better than for instance Enterprise

Models... It's technology we've lost...sorta like the moon landing.

Great Tempest Era Graphics

In space nobody can hear you scream.

And doesn’t look like a cartoon ship like in GOTG
I hadn’t remembered how corny the music was. It’s like an Irwin Allen “voyage to the bottom of the sea” vibe. If Hans Zimmer or John Williams had done the music it would have been an even better movie.
