As I said before I wouldn’t promote anything I didn’t like. No amount of money would persuade me to do that. Back when they had opened a new Ramen place by my office years ago when I worked in the Insurance field, people think all Asian cuisine is the same and kept asking me if the Ramen place was good. After a while I got tired of hearing about it because a new restaurant is a big deal for us. Working long hours it gets monotonous eating the same places day in and day out. I finally went and tried it for myself. Having eaten authentic ramen during a layover in Japan, I figured I would be objective. While it wasn’t great, it wasn’t bad either, definitely better than a cup of noodles but far from authentic. Ramen should have a nice bite yet be chewy and have a good texture for slurping noodles. The noodles should be slightly rough as to hold the broth or condiments well especially when paired with a fatty cut of pork or brisket. Like this woman, I couldn’t bring myself to promote it. I didn’t like it. This woman was paid to promote something and she couldn’t even hide how much she didn’t like it. But I also didn’t want to ruin it for them either. They had other items that were good so I told them to try the katsu cutlets and the rice bowls which were fantastic. Later on the same co-workers said the same thing I said, that their food was good but not the ramen. I was able to make a compromise while encouraging others to try new things which is still a win.
