I think you’ve been sideswiped by a politician giving an honest answer. The money’s not there. Don’t promise it if you can’t deliver it. #ToryTrap

If you can't afford to feed your children why are you having more than 2 and expecting other people to fund your lifestyle - what a pathetic criticism of Keir Starmer

If you can’t afford to support your children, stop having them. Us tax payers are not here to support your lifestyle choice of having multiple children. No one gives me a pay out for mine & my husband’s choice to have a dog & her insurance is sky high. Take responsibility

If you choose to have 3+ kids, you should have the ability to provide for them

400k children affected by the cap, 4.4m living in poverty. For the few not the many gesture policies are crap.

Good. Why should the government and taxpayers pay for someone else's kids? If they couldn't afford to have them in the first place, they should have either abstained or used contraception.

Or maybe he’s avoiding the obvious bear traps that would give the Tory’s a foot in the door to reverse the momentum on this election.
