this was Robert De Niro’s best performance in over a decade man. He's so subtle, vile, and manipualting. It's like hearing the devil speak

This is not an attack on his work in The Irishman btw. He’s great in that movie. I just felt he got a bit outshined by Pesci and Pacino in that one and here he really got to standout and flex his genius. Every moment he’s on screen just sent chills down my spine

He’s unreal but I’m watching this and equally blown away by the intricacies of Leo’s performance too. Both astounding

The actual best supporting actor. There’s subtleties in this performance that his contemporaries couldn’t dream of matching

Honestly his best work in at least 25 years, probably more. Should be a lock but it will probably go to RDJ giving the 4th best supporting actor performance in Oppenheimer.

I’d put RDJ at 1 or 2. He deserves it if he wins

It's kind of crazy how he manages to pull off a role more evil than Satan himself in "Angel Heart."

I think The Irishman was on par with it (minus that one scene), but he's surreal in this movie.

I think he was just as good in Irishman, but just my thoughts.

I agree. This was a good nom. My hot take is he has the best performance in the film.

scenes like this are both why the film is 3 1/2 hours long and why it's great

The amount of unspoken emotions that were in his face just trough subtle gestures were brilliant trough the whole movie. I loved every moment he was on screen, so much was said without ever actually saying it. Great acting and great storytelling.

This gave me flashbacks to the alley scene in Goodfellas with Deniro and Bracco. One of the most terrifying scenes ever. I mean, there's a reason Deniro has been literally cast as Satan in other projects.

One of the greatest to ever do it he got under my skin as Hale it's how ingratiated he was in the Osage community he knew there language and there customs so it blinded them to his greed and his evil that's true villainy it's one of De Niro's great performances.

De Niro deserves it not just for giving the best performance in the category but because they accidentally gave his award for The Irishman to Joaquin Phoenix for some reason

HOLY SHIT. 2:26 one SYNTH note ELEVATED the scene to high heavens As a sound editor you could choose to either drop a HUGE church bell sound, make everything go silent OR do a slight music change that SHOUTS without shouting whew! that was where the sound editor cued from

I have to agree. He's the quiet "moral" face of despicable greed. Pure evil.

We never even see him do anything really violent and yet he’s able to convey pure evil. It’s going to age really well.

I know De Niro would feel very flattered by getting another Oscar but he’s De Niro. It’s like feeling bad Meryl didn’t get nominated. Do they REALLY need an Oscar??? They don’t. They ARE the Oscar.
