British Steel is a strategic national asset with its blast furnaces. I’ve consistently said it needs public ownership with the vision to renew them and have a patriotic public sector procurement policy. Profits will inevitably follow. Labour must accelerate this vision. Shockingly, Tories don’t care about our industries, jobs and communities.

Very pleased to see the government adopt an amendment I put forward to improve protections for small businesses in the proposed tax reforms. In recent weeks I’ve heard from many in our community who support changes to improve housing affordability, but are concerned about what these reforms might mean for small businesses, start-ups, investors, and people with trusts. This is another great community win for Kooyong!

ABP has begun work on the first phase of a major project that will bring new industrial and logistics units to Immingham. This is a big vote of confidence in our region and a real boost for local jobs and businesses. The site will support small and medium sized businesses in energy, engineering, manufacturing and port logistics, helping our local economy grow and creating opportunities close to home. Immingham and Grimsby are at the heart of the UK’s trade network, and investments like this strengthen our role as the UK’s number one gateway for global trade. The site is also supporting British jobs and British Steel. 🇬🇧 This is exactly the kind of long term investment our communities deserve, and I look forward to seeing this development deliver real benefits for local people in October.
