Doug Ford has failed the young people of Ontario. The next generation of teachers, carpenters, and nurses is leaving this province because they can't afford to live here, let alone raise a family. Here's my plan to restore hope for our youth in Ontario: - Eliminate interest on OSAP loans and raise the income threshold for repayment to $50,000. - Introduce fair, phased-in rent control to ensure young people aren’t pouring their hard-earned money into rent instead of saving for a home. - Support the creation of 40,000 new paid co-op, internship, and apprenticeship positions through tax credits for employers who hire young people. It's time for a leader who delivers more for our young people.

Reform MPs do not often get the opportunity to secure a debate, so I used mine to call on the Government to consider a dedicated apprenticeship hub for Runcorn. Our young people deserve local, practical routes into skilled jobs with the excellent employers on their doorstep. Runcorn has huge potential. It now needs the opportunity to match.

I remember talking with the USA Hockey leadership group a few years back when I started as a youth hockey director and I was like “I don’t know if I can do this…” It was stressful as hell and it was hard to enact the kind of things I wanted to do because the youth hockey culture was so backwards on the priorities of development. They told me that I’d be shocked how many good, high level hockey people get into it for a year to give back and then are like - nah I’m good this is not the experience I was looking for. We need to find a way to entice more good hockey people to want to get involved in the youth side of the game. And I think the only way to do it is more community based hockey. Less pressure, more development. More opportunity for the players who get out of the high level of the game to enjoy coming to the rink and not feel like it’s a full time job again. We talked about the importance of more high level hockey people getting involved at the grassroots level on our latest podcast with Nick Robone. Check it out. 🎙️

Young people are paying the price for a Labour Government that refuses to recognise the cumulative impact of its decisions. Getting that first foot on the employment ladder is already difficult. Without experience, employers are reluctant to take a risk on young people. Yet the Government has made that decision even harder. Higher National Insurance costs, new employment regulations and increases in the minimum wage have created a triple whammy for employers, squeezing young people out of work. Youth unemployment is rising and too many young people are being denied the opportunity to gain the experience they need to build a career. The Government cannot continue to look at these policies in isolation. It must recognise their combined impact. Without that first job, there is no experience. Without experience, the next job is even harder to find.

Glad that you’ve been listening to Reform about the how we need more technical and vocational training, Andy. We need an overhaul of the system. But it needs careful planning and importantly, resources as the FE sector and schools are already struggling. Where will the new coding teachers come from? How will you build the new workshops for trainee plumbers and builders? And, crucially, how will employers be incentivised to take on apprentices and young people because right now, Labour’s tax rises make it nigh-on impossible to hire younger people. Giving more money to those on welfare is not the right way to do this. Soundbites and cheeky videos are not the right way to do this. There is a real opportunity to back the next generation of workers, revitalise our workforce and get young people earning, learning and moving forward with their lives. We owe it to young people to get it right.

Today, I held a highly productive meeting with the UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator, Edward Kallon, to unlock and operationalize the USD 50 million pledge made during the launch of the National Youth Empowerment Strategy (2026–2030) by His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa. I am pleased to announce that following our engagement, UN agencies are now proposing to increase the support package to up to USD 80 million over the next four years a major breakthrough for youth empowerment in Zimbabwe. This is a strong vote of confidence in the vision of His Excellency and in the potential of Zimbabwe’s young people. The partnership with the United Nations continues to drive tangible progress in Skills Development, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Economic Inclusion. We are moving from commitments to implementation, and from strategy to real opportunities that will transform the lives of young people across the country.
