this week i'm FINALLY going to share + open-source three little random projects I've been working on! here's the first one: BALL it's just a little ball that lives in your dock. take it out, throw it around, put it back. comes in one color: red. bouncy.

it's inspired by this classic Dock widget by @nheagy which i have lots of fond memories of (hey i shouldve added a motion blur!)

technically, the Ball is a transparent SpriteKit window with a physics body (the ball). the only remotely interesting thing here is that it animates in/out of its dock icon. you technically can't do this, but you can SORTA guess where the dock icon is, so it SORTA works!

imagine if you could change the color of the ball. you can't. but just imagine. it could even be an image such as your face. but only if you do it yourself anyway, here's the code (plus a pre-built download): stay tuned for project 2 of 3 tomorrow :)

Your brain knows a bunch of English grammar rules that you were never actually taught. Why does “little red ball” sound normal, but “red little ball” feels wrong? Or why is it “fun little red rubber ball” and not “rubber fun little red ball”? Most of us just instinctively know the right order — even though almost nobody was ever taught the actual rule. It turns out there’s a pretty specific (and surprisingly strict) order we follow for adjectives, and we enforce it without even realizing it’s a rule. No wonder why they say English is one of the hardest languages. Were you ever taught what order to put adjectives in? I don’t remember learning this.

Viktor Hovland says he’s been struggling with visualising shots and has been seeing shots that he didn’t even think were possible. I think this is something that anyone who’s played competitive golf can relate to: “That's one of the things that's been very difficult, especially when you've been going through some struggles like I have. “Some of the shots that I've seen are just like, Whoa, how is that even possible? Like, I've never seen some of those shots before. Then I've had moments where, okay, I think I'm onto something, it feels good, and then that one big miss comes back again. “So even if you're playing good golf it's still kind of in the back of your mind a little bit, like, Oh, are we over it, are we good. And you have a little bit of doubt still in there, even though you're hitting good shots. I don't know if there's like this one point where you go, Oh, I got it now, it just kind of those big misses stop happening and then you just expect to see the ball going straight. Kind of like what happened this week. “Because even U.S. Open last week, I thought I drove it a lot better, but I had one big miss on the 12th hole out there in the left-to-right wind that went OB, so I had one bad shot that cost me two shots for the tournament and I missed the cut by a shot. “Canada was a lot better. But still it felt like I was maybe guiding it a little bit, not quite as comfortable as I would have liked. But it was definitely a huge step in the right direction. Going over the film, I'm more convinced than ever before that this is less a personnel issue and more a coaching issue. These guys are not put in good situations. I'll have a film study to show it tomorrow, but here's a sample. This is the problem. The Lions send pressure, but Bryce Young doesn't have to hold the ball long enough for it to matter. There's an easy answer right around the sticks, the ball comes out immediately, and the rush never has a chance. Detroit has to make the QB hold the ball, but they'd rather just send the house, knowing that he's just got it out fast all night. Lions had the sixth-best time to throw this week, but the 22nd-best time to pressure, because the Panthers just knew they'd blitz, and all they had to do was get the ball out fast. The Lions never adjust to that at any point
