NEW: San Diego County Sheriff's Office issues a blistering statement on the county board's decision to make it a "Super Sanctuary county." "The Sheriff's office will not changes its practices based on the Board resolution and policy that was passed at today's meeting," the statement reads. "The Board of Supervisors does not set policy for the Sheriff's Office." The Board Supervisor Supervisor Jim Desmond blasted the designation. "Today’s outrageous decision to turn San Diego County into a 'Super' Sanctuary County is an affront to every law-abiding citizen who values safety and justice. The Board of Supervisors’ 3-1 vote to embrace this radical policy is a direct betrayal of the people we are sworn to protect," he wrote on X. "This reckless measure not only goes far beyond California's already extreme Sanctuary State laws but actively endangers our communities by shielding illegal immigrant criminals from deportation," he continued. "Consider this: under this policy, law enforcement is prohibited from notifying ICE about individuals, in custody, who have committed violent and heinous crimes, including: Rape and stalking, Assault and battery, Burglary, Child abuse and more." "I will not stand by while our communities are made less safe," he vowed. "I have already been in contact with the incoming [Trump] Administration and will fight relentlessly to undo this disastrous policy and ensure that illegal immigrant criminals are removed from our neighborhoods."

🚨Even after a violent illegal immigrant is accused of murdering a Virginia mother at a bus stop in Fairfax County, the nine Democrats on the Board of Supervisors refused to second a motion brought forward by Republican Supervisor Pat Herrity to revisit their so called Trust Policy, which bans Fairfax County police from telling ICE about violent illegal immigrants in the county like Stephanie Minter’s accused killer. Democrat Supervisor Rodney Lusk signed onto Herrity’s motion ahead of the meeting, but surprisingly didn’t second the motion to even have a discussion about the "Trust Policy." Herrity’s motion died for the lack of a second. I asked Lusk if Chair Jeff McKay threatened him / somehow got him to back down from supporting Herrity's motion. Waiting to hear back from Lusk. Yesterday, my administration delivered a series of major legislative wins thanks to our partnership with the Board of Supervisors. The Board passed a responsible budget that moves our city forward, including tens of millions to address homelessness. They voted unanimously to cut red tape for small businesses through my our PermitSF legislation, and approved a real plan to support families living in RVs. Thank you to the Board, and I look forward to building on what we've accomplished so far.

Today we introduced a Fentanyl State of Emergency Ordinance to the Board of Supervisors to address the crisis on our streets. Inaction is no longer an option, and bureaucracy can no longer be the excuse. This ordinance will allow us to surge resources, overcome bureaucratic obstacles, and save lives. I want to thank the supervisors who have co-sponsored the legislation, and I look forward to working with all of the supervisors for their quick approval.
