This week, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that will delay necessary protections for North Atlantic right whales, but the fight doesn’t end here. With only around 380 of these gentle giants remaining, the U.S. Senate must stop this bill:

Of course North Atlantic right whales need protection. But this post makes it sound as though the House voted to strip away their protections. It didn’t. The bill keeps the existing regulatory framework in place and extends the pause on additional lobster and Jonah-crab regulations from 2028 to 2035. There are only about 380 right whales left, so the concern is real. But fishing families are real too. The question is whether additional restrictions should be imposed now or whether scientists should have more time to gather data and develop workable technology. Even Democratic Rep. Jared Golden of Maine co-sponsored the bill with Republican Rep. Mike Lawler. Protect the whales, protect the fishermen, and base the next regulations on sound evidence. Those goals don’t have to be enemies.

What is all this in the US and wanting to kill wild animals all of a sudden, it is absolutely grotesque.

What bozos these Senators are.

Only around 380 left makes every one of these encounters precious. Protecting right whales means preserving the ocean’s quiet giants for generations to come. 💙
