If there is money for tax breaks, then there should be plenty of money for classrooms. Educators are mobilizing to pass legislation to tax the rich, and fully fund Illinois schools. The veto session is over, and the state of Illinois still owes Illinois school districts nearly $5 Billion in undelivered funds. These are the funds that would ensure our students have the resources they need to thrive, like mental health supports, special education programs, safe passage, and more. As CTU and IFT president Stacy Davis Gates reminds us, the solution is simple: tax the ultra-wealthy corporations and fully fund our schools. Chicago has billionaires, Illinois has billionaires. Donald Trump gave them all these tax breaks and meanwhile there are people in rural communities in my state who have hospitals that are now closing. These billionaires need to pay what they owe and they are the biggest welfare queens. We have some corporations that in their trainings with their employees train them on how to apply for food stamps and Medicaid, but they don’t wanna pay them a living wage and they don’t pay them a living wage because they get a government kickback, they get tax breaks”

Governor JB Pritzker responds to Trump's lawsuit against Illinois: It's a massive effort to distract from what they are doing across the country—to take away things that working-class, middle-class people, families, and the most vulnerable really need. You know, as they come and try to attack the state of Illinois—and that's what they're doing—you know, the lawsuits are against laws on the books in Illinois. Unlike Donald Trump, we follow the law in Illinois. Now, maybe they put up with this kind of garbage in Florida, which is the home state of the head of the DOJ, but in Illinois, we have grit. We are tough. We are strong. And Donald Trump has no idea what he's up against when he attacks Illinois. So we're here. We're going to stay here.
