President of Italy Sergio Mattarella Quirinale and I discussed the security situation in Ukraine, across our Europe, and also in the Middle East and the Gulf region. I gave an overview of our agreements with countries of the region regarding security cooperation. It is important to develop a joint protection system in Europe as well. Particular attention was given to the assistance needed for Ukraine’s energy resilience, the unblocking of the decision on the €90 billion financial package for Ukraine, the 20th package of sanctions against Russia, and the negotiation clusters on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. Together with the other branches of Ukraine's Defense and Security Forces, the Ukrainian Navy has achieved what many believed was impossible. Russia has lost the Black Sea. Beginning with the liberation of Zmiinyi Island and continuing through our operations against the Russian fleet, ports, and the occupying forces in our Crimea, we keep proving that this region – the Black Sea region and the Sea of Azov region – will never be a place of peace and quiet for Russia. On the eve of Ukrainian Navy Day, I honored our warriors defending Ukraine as part of our Naval Forces. I presented the battle flag and the ribbons “For Courage and Bravery” to Navy military units. I thank everyone for their service. And today, on the occasion of this year's Ukrainian Navy Day – and as a sign of respect and gratitude to our Naval Forces – I have made a decision for the future of Ukraine's Naval Forces and for the future of our Odesa. The decision to establish our own strong new Naval Academy in Odesa. I know this is something our Naval Forces need. We have the capacity to make it happen, and, most importantly, our cadets and our young people have the desire to serve Ukraine and defend Ukraine. We will definitely accomplish all our tasks.

During our conversation, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis Kyriakos Mitsotakis and I discussed ways to expand the security space in the Black Sea, as well as protect the frontlines and all of our cities, including Odesa. Ukraine requires more air-defense systems. We were also briefed on the operation of the grain corridor and the security situation in the Black Sea. It is critical to strengthen the security of the port infrastructure. We also spoke with the military command about the current situation in the Odesa region and on the southern frontline, as well as measures to counter the Russian fleet. I am grateful to Greece for assisting our state and society in protecting life.

We deeply appreciate that all parties are united in their support for Ukraine. We discussed the consolidation of international support at the parliamentary level and the areas of our future cooperation. I informed the MPs on the diplomatic efforts to achieve peace, the vision for a future security architecture of Ukraine and Europe, and humanitarian efforts to bring our children home. Today, together with Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney, we saw the latest Ukrainian developments – weapons and equipment created here in Ukraine to defend our state. I thank everyone engaged in this effort. We are building up our own production, and this is essential. I also met with the Defense Ministers of partner countries who came to us on Independence Day. This is a great sign of solidarity with our warriors and with all Ukrainian people. Today, together with Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney, we saw the latest Ukrainian developments – weapons and equipment created here in Ukraine to defend our state. I thank everyone engaged in this effort. We are building up our own production, and this is essential. I also met with the Defense Ministers of partner countries who came to us on Independence Day. This is a great sign of solidarity with our warriors and with all Ukrainian people. Honoured to attend the reception marking the Day of the Armed Forces of Ukraine 🇺🇦 , at the invitation of the Defence Office at the Embassy of Ukraine in the UK. General Valerii Zaluzhnyi, Ambassador of Ukraine, presented awards to the families of British warriors who gave their lives fighting for Ukraine and freedom, as well as to those who were wounded. Their bravery will never be forgotten. 🇬🇧 UK Minister for the Armed Forces, Al Carns, also gave a strong speech. I am grateful to be among friends and partners who understand that Ukraine’s fight is also a fight for European and transatlantic security. I presented state awards on the occasion of Ukraine’s Constitution Day to Ukrainian men and women who work for our state. First and foremost, to our military: I personally presented the Orders of the Golden Star to the Heroes of Ukraine, and also handed awards to the families of the fallen who, tragically, were awarded this title posthumously. I also presented awards to Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Ihor Klymenko; the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan of Kyiv and All Ukraine Epiphanius; our multi-time champion Liudmyla Luzan; war correspondent Andriy Tsaplienko; and the first responders and a police officer who saved the Dormition Cathedral after the Russian strike. I thank everyone who, through their work, words, faith, and actions, supports Ukraine and our people. Everyone who, in their place, helps build a free and strong state. A state that is fighting today for its freedom and independence. And it will certainly preserve them.
