This week's Unleashing Greatness lesson is something I taught and shared with Beyoncé and Solange many years ago. I believe in being fair in business, but being overly nice and tip-toeing around egg shells is not my primary concern and never has been. I've always said unfortunately shy people... finish last in business. You must be assertive, make sure you are talking to the decision maker, understand leadership, have an incredible knowledge of your product, think outside the box and many more we will dive into in 2025. Anyone who is truly engrained in the business world will tell you that there are sharks everywhere you go. You must have the ability to bite when needed. You are too obsessed with new customers. I know, I know. Sacrilegious. But the more time I spend around large brands the more insane I think it is that they are excluding people who haven't bought from the brand in years from seeing ads. CUSTOMERS DON'T BELONG TO YOU. You aren't as SAAS business. They have no ongoing obligation to purchase. They must be sold over and over again. And your next most incremental ad impression is likely to one of those people you are currently excluding. Additionally, at some point the marginal acquisition of the next customer on your current offer is NOT PROFITABLE. I feel complicit in this problem we pushed aMER and cohort modeling etc. and it can still be very useful. But I think we have swung the pendulum too far and it is time to recalibrate.
