The way Ridley Scott desecrated Napoleon and the way Christopher Nolan desecrated The Odyssey really rubbed me the wrong way. The fact this happened only a few years apart couldn’t have been a coincidence. This came off like a genuine dehumanisation of Western culture, trying to recreate heroes of old as pathetic, depressed, regretful, self-loathing cucks instead of the Honourable, courageous, virtuous, intuitive and steadfast leaders that they truly were is disgraceful. This has to be a humiliation ritual, there’s no other way.

Sean Bean is top A, first grade, high calliber, not as recognized as he deserves, actor. Matt Damon is good and all, but Sean takes you in an emotinal journey even in the smallest role. Next level. It's the kind of actor that inspires goodness even when he's the bad guy.

The only actor I picture in my mind as the perfect Odysseus is Sean Bean. I didn't even know he'd already played him in Troy. I only knew him as Ned Stark from Game of Thrones. It's unfortunate we never got to see his own Odyssey.

Nolan's Odysseus is clearly not Homer's Odysseus; Matt Damon plays a war-traumatized hero suffering from PTSD who possesses none of Odysseus's characteristics. Sean Bean's Ulysses is much truer to Homer—and to the Odysseus I imagined when reading the books. Too bad...
