My Granddad taught me this to sharpen my pen knife when I was little to cut baler twine on my pony's hay bales, I'm now 59 and still do it this way, including my kitchen knife. Still have my little mother of pearl pen knife he gave me too.

I have to say it sets my teeth on edge to see a tool abused like that. I've not been without a knife for 50 years. I like a decent knife and a whetstone whether at work or in the kitchen.

But it does the bloody job! 🔥🤙

Look outside most old houses in the UK and there will be a stone on a wall or the step that has clear signs of knives being sharpened for decades

That’s how my dad sharpened the knife on Sundays to cut the meat!
