This woman is driving while holding her cell phone with both hands. Little does she know that this California Highway Patrol Officer is right next to her and is keeping pace watching her keep her hands off the wheel. They are traveling 85 mph in a 55 mph construction... show more

Some people drive like the car is on autopilot while they scroll their whole life away. At 85 mph in a construction zone, that’s not “multitasking” — that’s gambling with everyone else’s safety too. 🚔📱

@Thevictoria76 That car does have drive assist but it doesn’t matter. You should have both your hands on the phone and eyes off the road

@Thevictoria76 Shouldn’t

That should be an automatice reckless driving ticket and 6-10 points on your license.

We have to have more strict laws regarding this imho

Both hands on the phone at 85 mph… Charles approves..

Indeed- for sure

When I was a cop I was driving on a major road in my city. I was in a department-issued Suburban. I came beside a guy who was driving with his cell phone, laptop & a variety of papers along the steering wheel and the front seat. I charged him with reckless driving.

Holy moly, he was working! Incredible

@45johnmac While the cop takes his eyes off the road, uses computer, radio, explains what he’s seeing etc. Hypocrisy thy name is you.

@45johnmac Many people have stated that as well

I've seen this exact thing multiple times and it pisses me off to no end. Of course there's never a police officer anywhere nearby when I see this shit. 🙄

Never seems to be a cop when you need them for a traffic issue

30mph over the limit in my state can get you immediately hauled in.

She’s oblivious

All the time. Ohio recently passed a new law about holding a phone. Yet I still see people holding phones while driving or in some cases doing like her.

So dangerous

It should be treated as a DUI. Something has to be done to stop this. You are not even looking at the road.

I was thinking about that as well. It’s not a deterrent the way it is now

I wouldn't honk. Might cause a accident at that point. Just get away. :)

Good advice

I don't know about California but here in Ohio if you're pulled over for speeding in a construction zone the fine is doubled. Yes they have signage all over the place.

I got pulled over in a speed trap in southern Illinois that was labeled a construction zone. No workers or machinery present. That ticket was steep!

Her license should be suspended for driving 85 mph in a 55 mph construction zone alone. Texting while doing it should double the length of that suspension. Then maybe she won't pull this shit anymore.

Couldn’t agree with you more

85 mph…holy crap..how about a speeding ticket

Cruising at 85!

you think? distracted driving overtook DUI fatalities years ago

But yet the laws are not nearly as harsh

Should be a $1000 fine for first offence, $2500 on the second, with suspension of license and jail time on the third.

I like your style Nico

Every time I see someone doing something stupid they're looking down at their phone

I have personally been rear ended THREE TIMES when I used to commute to my job. 3 X Always people looking down at their phones. I'm glad working from home was "invented" otherwise I would quit.

$20 is a waste of time and money on both the police and the person. Make the fines hefty and you will see change.

She should have been arrested.... hammer her for 30 over and distracted driving... double fines in a work zone. cripple this bitch .. suspend license for 1 year.

The problem isn't the woman, its California. In Texas this is ground for the officer to cut your license in half and put bracelets on your wrists. As is any 30mph over ticket. The phone is an additional charge.

I see this every day during my commute in the Bay Area. When you honk, more often than not you get ignored. Agree there needs to be more enforcement.

so many people do this, the cell companies can disable the phone, but the insurance is making too much to care for our lives

Imagine.. if the cops put that much effort into burglaries, drug dealers and murderers.. Instead of pulling people over, driving down the road, straight down the road, no less.. So useless

Not enough! 20-50$ is a joke. You can kill yourself and others. In Italy you loose 5 points out if 20 on your driving license, fines go from 250€ till 1000€

The cops don't enforce the cell phone restrictions hardly at all. Now they'll find a commercial vehicle and charge them all day because the ticket is worth more revenue, but cars get away with it constantly

@SweetTexanRose Distracted driving with a cell phone actually causes more crashes than DUIs. Studies from as early as 2007 or 2008 have shown that. In Arizona, it is illegal to manipulate a wireless device with your hands, unless you are stopped at a stoplight.

Hope she doesn’t come to Canada. The fines are 30X what they are in California.

No way that was 85

@MAGA__Patriot First offense should be a near-life altering fine. It won't sort out traffic entirely, but It'll help if it's enforced. $250-$1500 IMO

20$ ain’t going to make them not do it again. Just pointing this out for the liberals.

He was furious. The case went to court. The judge found him guilty to a lesser charge of improper driving. IF the guy had kept his mouth shut, he'd have walked away with a $25 fine and that's it. But NO! He had to have a temper tantrum, and talked himself into a jail term.

The fines are way too low. If you text while driving, completely distracted, the fine should start at $100 and double every time when caught again. Plus the suspension of drivers license seems adequate when caught again. Any of us could be her potential future victim

It happens all the time. I see this everywhere when driving.

It’s pretty scary to see Jessie

My phone connects to my car with bluetooth, but it doesn't do text messages, it only takes calls. I prefer it this way. I feel like it's safer.

Going against the grain here.. Texting and driving tickets are revenue generators. Think about a Tesla.. The whole infotainment system is a big screen in the center of the dash!! You have to look at a precise point to touch the right spot on the screen. Taking your eyes off the road. If individuals could text and drive RESPONSIBLY with their phone up so they can see the other cars on the road in their peripheral vision, while consistently looking up every second or two.. They should be fine. It's not like cops can't type on a laptop keyboard while driving.. Heck, we used to change CD's.. Eat.. and Shift a manual when I was younger. I'd make sure that people got tickets for getting in a wreck while texting and driving.. But the vast majority of us text and drive.

Relax buddy it's California 99% of people are doing this and worse things while driving.

Imagine getting pulled over by an Asian cop “Do you know how fast you were driving?” “No, do you know how slow you were going?”

That’s funny! 😂
