No. We didn’t use the line in. We put a cassette player with a built in microphone next to the radio speaker and pressed Play AND Record to capture our favorite song forever.

I simultaneously felt old and young watching this.

All that and then the DJ speaks over the song before it’s finished. 🤬

What is this Bay Area Canadian accent

Man it's hard to duplicate that kind of romance and make it authentic

He forgot to say you could use 2x speed when recording from on tape to another. But the heads up to use 90 minute cassetes was a boss move.

And if you are very very lucky, the DJ is going to say something in the middle of your recording! And that is how you are going to remember the song for.ever.

@beneficii I guess this doubled as a test for being old enough to recognize the anachronisms! "The web" means this is post 1991, so the typical phone already has buttons not a disc. And instead of calling into radio, you can just buy or rent or borrow a CD and copy stuff to your mix tapes.

making a mix for someone, doesn't hit the same nowadays. I had the equivalent for CDs and file sharing software, although I did had a cool Technics Tuner, just like the one in the picture. Rarely ever used it, but it had a cool light and the needles went crazy. I did record the radio once or twice to: get the newest song. Because it took a while for it to be around, eventually that time from where you heard it on the radio and could download it from the internet reduced to zero. And there it lied, "making a mix" was dead. No one "makes a mix" for someone anymore. It's dead.

All that for at the end having a song with the 10 first seconds missing bevause you were not fast enough
