This year, we are going the teaching route. Last year; I changed my DBs visual key in ‘Press man’ from Hip Region (any lower level visual) to V of the Neck (Higher level visual). Here is one of the reasons. Watch how his eyes naturally rise and he missed...

Now, with higher visuals, we can see an efficient key that won’t lie to us and see what we strike. This is not scripture, just what we do 🙏🏽

A way that Patrick Surtain showed to combat this, is to physically place the TRAIL hand (in this case the DB's right hand) onto the Receivers Near Hip and get your eyes to it. Hope this helps Coach 🫡

I like eyes keying V of the neck after getting in phase with a vert. There’s an argument for high eyes in press man to get a cleaner jam, but losing leverage would be my concern. That inside hip just can’t lie like the upper body can. Interested in seeing how this plays out!

His feet is lazy which is why he missed the jam. He need to inch out, close the gate by cutting the DB off with his feet then he need to go for the jam with his right hand

Question coach… What happens when the WR starts his release and the v of neck lowers due to him coming out the stance? Is higher eyes it just to make sure their hands hit intended target (see what you hit). Respect!

He missed the jam because his feet were slow to react. If you slow it down he doesn’t stay square which gave the wr the inside slant and he locked his hips by trying to jam with his left going left instead of his off hand that’s why he was steps behind

any difficulties with pad level / narrowing of the base with this visual key shift?

Nope, haven’t had pad level issues at all. It’s just eyes. I can sit on the ground and look at the sky, won’t change where my body is, just the focus of my eyes. Base isn’t affected at all. Changing the key allowed my players to punch quicker and more effectively when possible.

He was beat from the start. Flat feet and zero movement. Almost as if he had a delayed start. Neurological issue - see the target move vs reacting to the movement

What’s was the philosophy and/or strategy behind that for you?

You gone always naturally raise,, inevitable especially when ur instinct to use hands eventually… knees go to navel. Keeps your discipline

Just always wanna avoid head and shoulders even when tackling

I healthy disagree with you. I would never have any position on the field read knees to Navel.. not saying it cannot be done, I do not think its effect when it comes to key:strike point ratio. But if it works for you, keep it going
