Thomas Sowell, in a rare interview, takes a hit at Trump's tariff plan. Could it be a catastrophe and set off a 'worldwide trade war'? Or is this just the bump in the road Elon and Trump have mentioned? Incredible man, still sharp at 94. Dave Rubin

@RubinReport I’m in favor of the tariffs, plenty of economists agree w Trump. Sowell is great, but he could be wrong

@RubinReport Yeah, no. Bad take. The US literally needs nobody else. And it's a simple formula - they lower their tariffs and we lower ours. They want to still sell to us, then they play ball. It's fair.

@RubinReport This is why I was generally okay with a policy of merely mirroring the tariffs of other countries, so that if they lower theirs we lower ours, with a clear message of reciprocity, that is far less likely to set off a trade war than some complex 'trade deficit' type theory.

@RubinReport The time to buy is when the sheep are scared and holding on to cash. And, Trump is very predictable - he does exactly what he says going to do.

@RubinReport The Don is exaggerating the "tariff" situation. He's acting like trade deficits are a ripoff. I have a trade deficit everywhere i spend money. My landlord and Amazon aren't ripping me off. Trump ain't perfect. And he happens to be wrong on this one.

It seems that Sowell forgets that back in the 20s and 30s was a time before all of our manufacturing plants and jobs were shipped off to other countries. It was before we got off the gold standard. It was before the Internet and this globalist threat of tyranny. It was a very different time.
