Today we met with Trump’s Secretary of Education to talk about their “restructuring” of education—as millions of students, teachers, and parents are afraid of what comes next. What’s their plan? I raised my concerns today regarding free speech on our university campuses. 🏛️ Whether it's Zionist views, gender-critical perspectives or climate scepticism, there is a demonstrable two-tier approach to free speech playing out across our higher education institutions and it is students who are bearing the brunt of it. The Higher Education Freedom of Speech Act was passed precisely to give students the right to bring complaints to the Office for Students. I posed this to the Minister today and I do not believe his response was correct. It is, after all, called the Office for Students, not the Office for Everyone on Campus Except Students. Their parents are sending them money from back home, selling whatever they have, and while they struggle over there, the students struggle over here. That’s not fair," he said. He went on to explain that the government should at least give them an extension so they could have a chance to qualify in the draws and stay in Canada. He mentioned that if he were to "invest" exorbitant sums of money to illegally buy an LMIA from an employer today, he would qualify to stay in Canada in the next draw. In many cases, one or two students must do all the work for the entire group or risk receiving a fail result. The universities’ addiction to revenue from foreign students is putting the education of Australians at risk, and Labor has a plan to make it worse. It should be a simple requirement - if you arrive here to study, you must have a fluent level of English.

If ever there is an award for misleading students or lying in an official document, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) may well emerge the winner. After a prolonged debate, JNU started offering BTech programs. And this is what they achieved: 1. They offer two programs - CSE & ECE. Both in high demand. 2. Their sanctioned intake is 120 3. They managed to admit 112 students. 4. The rank cutoff required a student of at least 98 percentile to get admission. 5. Only 78 students graduated in time. 5. Only 17 of the 78 could be placed. That too at an abysmal 6.5 lacs median salary. And the lies start here. The unplaced 61 students (78% of the graduating batch) are shown as having opted for higher studies. In no other BTech college do 4/5th of students move for higher studies. The fact is that each of the 61 unplaced students have been shown as moving for higher studies. It is a balancing figure. JNU School of engineering now claims 100% placement. Ranking gamed. Ministry of Education SFI JNU Unit JNUSU Official
