🚨Maxence Lacroix on why he chose to join Chelsea while Arsenal are interested in signing him. 🎙️Interviewer: Arsenal were the Premier League champions and reportedly wanted you. Why did you choose Chelsea instead? 🗣️ Lacroix: First of all, I respect Arsenal. They’ve had an incredible season and deserve credit for that. But trophies from one season don’t decide my future. When Chelsea came to me with their project, I knew where I wanted to be. 🎙️Interviewer: A lot of people will question that decision because Chelsea aren’t playing European football next season. 🗣️ Lacroix: People can question it all they want. I’m not joining a club for one season I’m joining because I believe in where it’s going. Chelsea is a club built on winning. Every big club goes through difficult periods, but history doesn’t disappear overnight. 🎙️Interviewer: So Arsenal being champions wasn’t enough? 🗣️ Lacroix: No. Being champions today doesn’t automatically make you the biggest club tomorrow. Chelsea’s history, the trophies they’ve won, the mentality, and the ambition all played a huge part in my decision. I wanted to be part of bringing Chelsea back to the very top. 🎙️Interviewer: Some fans will say you rejected guaranteed Champions League football. 🗣️ Lacroix: I chose the badge I wanted to represent. Champions League football will come. I believe Chelsea will be back there very soon, and I’d rather be part of that journey than join a team just because they’re currently in the competition. 🎙️Interviewer: Final message to Chelsea and Arsenal fans? 🗣️ Lacroix: To Chelsea fans, thank you for believing in me I won’t let you down. To Arsenal fans, I understand you’ll disagree with my choice, but every player has to follow what feels right. For me, that was Chelsea, and I have absolutely no regrets.

Rory Jennings on 5 Sporting Directors 🗣️ The size of Chelsea. Liam rosenior isn’t a Premier League level manager and the ownership put him in a role he clearly wasn’t ready for. That’s the reality. What makes it worse is that the same people who appointed Liam Rosenior then sacked him, yet none of them faced any consequences themselves. If you are responsible for appointing arguably the worst manager in Chelsea’s recent history, you should also be under pressure for your job. The worrying part is that it was obvious to almost everyone that Rosenior was not the right replacement for Enzo Maresca, yet the ownership still handed him a six-year deal. After the Graham Potter situation, trying the same experiment again just showed how naive or incompetent the decision-makers at the club have been. Chelsea spent billions building this project, but the structure around the football decisions kept failing. What exposed everything even more was the dressing room. You could clearly see certain players stopped believing in the manager and once that happens, standards collapse. Whatever players think privately, their responsibility is still to fight for the badge, the fans, and the history of Chelsea Football Club. Instead, the lack of leadership, accountability, and belief became obvious for everyone to see. That’s why the appointment of Xabi Alonso feels so significant now because it finally feels like Chelsea have realised the previous approach simply was not working.

🚨Jamie Carragher on Chelsea shareholders Todd Boehly and Mark Walter holding talks to SELL their stakes in the club to Clearlake Capital. 🗣️“Let’s stop pretending this is good news. Boehly and Walter selling their shares to Clearlake isn’t stability. It’s the final confirmation that Chelsea are now fully under pure private equity control, and the multi-club structure is the real story people should be looking at. BlueCo was never just about Chelsea. It’s a holding company. Chelsea is the expensive flagship, Strasbourg is the feeder. That’s the model. Clearlake already hold the majority, they already drive the strategy, and once Boehly and Walter are gone, there’s no one left inside the ownership to even argue for Chelsea’s interests when the numbers say sell a player, move talent across the network, or treat the first team like a portfolio asset. You’ve watched it for four years. Constant manager changes. A squad full of young players signed for future value rather than current quality. Record losses. No clear style of play. And every time questions get asked, the answer is always the same: trust the process. The process is BlueCo. The process is Clearlake. The process is private equity logic applied to a football club that used to stand for something. Boehly was chaotic and often ridiculous, but at least he still acted like he cared about the badge in public. Clearlake don’t do that. They don’t need to. They already control the majority. This deal just removes the last bit of internal friction. What’s left is a clean structure where Chelsea can be managed as one asset inside a multi-club network designed to extract value, move players, and protect the overall investment. Clearlake are not a sports specialist firm. Their core business is private equity in technology, industrials and consumer goods. Chelsea is their big experiment in football. They’ve got Strasbourg as well under the same BlueCo structure, so the multi-club model is clearly part of the plan. That’s fine in theory. In practice, what we’ve seen at Chelsea so far is heavy spending, constant managerial turnover, a squad that still looks like it’s being assembled on the fly, and record losses. The football side has never looked properly coherent. Compare that to a firm like RedBird. Gerry Cardinale’s model is different. They treat clubs as premium intellectual property that needs to be professionalised and grown properly — stadiums, commercial revenue, data-driven recruitment, longer-term structures. You can argue with some of the results at Milan, but the approach is at least football-aware. Clearlake’s approach feels more like traditional private equity applied to a football club: control the costs, optimise the asset, protect the valuation, and keep the option of an eventual exit or further capital raise. Chelsea fans who think this ends the circus are kidding themselves. The circus isn’t ending. It’s just going quiet. And quiet private equity ownership with a multi-club structure is usually worse for the supporters in the long run, because the decisions stop being about the club and start being about the group. Once that shift is complete, the club stops being the priority. It becomes the vehicle. That’s what this deal actually represents. Not clarity. Completion.”
