Air Peace Staff Attacked By Aviation Unions Over Refusal To Join Their Association On Tuesday, NUATE and ATSSSAN shut down terminal entrances and forced Air Peace to cancel over 70 daily flights. The unions said they were protesting two things: the 5% Ticket Sales Charge debt owed to NCAA, and Air Peace allegedly preventing workers from joining unions. The protest turned violent, and members of the Aviation Union beat and injured Air Peace staff who refused to join their association. Only Air Peace was targeted — other domestic carriers don’t have unionized workers. Under Nigerian labour law, union membership is voluntary, and even some union members confirmed workers cannot be forced to join or punished for refusing.
