I was on my boat late last night & thought I heard a scrabbling noise coming from outside. I saw movement out of the corner of my eye & looked up to see a fox had come through my open boat hatch & was climbing into my bed! It didn’t flinch or run away when I turned to it & instead slowly sussed me out & gently sauntered back off the boat. It feels like the longer I live in nature, the more comfortable all creatures become with me and my presence.

I lost my dad, my family home, and our entire town on wedneday. These decades old photos among the rubble and ash. I shouldn’t have to justify our grief, but this is 2025. Idk maybe have some humanity and decency, it’s in ever scarcer supply these days. I never thought I’d see the politicization and lack of empathy - from both sides. my dad was a veteran, a distinguished professor, a husband to my mom for 50 years, a humble and decent guy. 2023 was one year. It will never be well with Peter Obi. I gathered people, printed banners and caps with my own money, and led the “All Eyes on the Judiciary” protest on the streets. We stood under the scorching sun, took risks, and poured our energy into the cause, while the man we were fighting for was not even bold enough to clearly tell the court that he won the election. On that day, DSS officials were reportedly deployed to monitor the protest while disguised as protesters. Their instruction was to arrest me immediately if they observed any form of violence. Interestingly, I innocently became friends with one of the female officers because I genuinely thought she was an Obidient. We exchanged contacts and stayed in touch. Months later, she revealed who she really was and explained the mission they had been assigned at the protest. Many of my close friends know this story. Today was one of the hardest and proudest days of my life. Tears in my eyes, but pride in my heart. Our son Matthew left today for a six-month deployment with the United States Air Force. His first deployment. I was the exact same age he is now when I went on my first deployment, and today I finally understood what my parents must have felt when they watched me leave. That quiet mix of pride, fear, love, and letting go. It’s bittersweet watching your child grow into a man who is willing to serve something bigger than himself. You raise them, you teach them, you try to prepare them for the world… and one day they put on a uniform and step into it. I am incredibly proud of you, Matthew. I pray for your safety and for all the young men and women serving our country around the world. I pray they all come home safe to their families and friends. God bless you, buddy. My home was a magical place. Only ashes remain. The outpouring of support from community has been monumental and every message, donation, gesture has truly been food for me these last few days. We’ve got a long road ahead of us. We evacuated with only the clothes on our backs so we truly have nothing left. My art, my jewelry, my clothing, my books, my photos - everything curated and collected in my material in my life is now gone, including the home we had poured everything into to buy in the first place. We are underinsured, it will be a battle. Sobering. Hard. Life-Changing. But… I want everyone to remember its beauty and optimism, the joy the disco cabin brought me and so many others who gathered here. At this exact time last year - Punks came together at my home as the sunset kissed the ocean in a sky of pink, sweet tunes drifting over us with tacos in hand. And perhaps there is also something poetic in this total loss, a silver lining I will find one day? This moment was framed to me as the beginning of a new “hero’s journey” and being a lover of Joseph Campbell - and that concept feels true. 🐦‍🔥 “We're in a freefall into future. We don't know where we're going. Things are changing so fast, and always when you're going through a long tunnel, anxiety comes along. And all you have to do to transform your hell into a paradise is to turn your fall into a voluntary act. It's a very interesting shift of perspective and that's all it is... joyful participation in the sorrows and everything changes.”

I’ve had a front-row seat to one National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum ⚾ candidate my whole life — my dad, @dalemurphh3. People talk about the “character clause” keeping guys out. For him, it’s the opposite — his character is a reason we often say to put him in. I see it on display constantly: camping with his grandkids, hyping up crowds with my daughter in the DR, planning surprise picnics for his granddaughters, and he and my mom pouring their lives into helping my brother with special needs live a full, joyful life. It’s not just the big things you see in public. He does the little things too. But make no mistake. On the field, he was one of the most dominant players of the ’80s. And baseball fans everywhere remember it. I hope we can remember the dominant ones of the 80s this weekend.

My very first time in London and I thought I would start day 1 by being a typical tourist. So this is London… but where are all the native English people? I’m assuming they have all moved out the city😂 … I’ve had a Polish breakfast, an Italian lunch, and I’ve just ordered a proper Pakistani dinner—still waiting for my first fish and chips encounter. Day 1 observations of being a proper tourist - It’s like an international buffet of people. My Uber driver had to use Google translate to ask me to put my seatbelt on 😂 Will update soon with my dinner. I’ve found proper Pakistani mashed daal, Kulcha naan, Lacha paratha, chicken karahi and a daal gosht. 🇵🇰 Tomorrow I’ll be on the move into more non tourist areas. This is quite funny. We're visiting Kamakura in Japan and we came across a large group of Chinese tourists in a place that, at first glance, looked nothing special. Turns out that this very spot is one of THE most iconic locations in Japan for Chinese people who grew up in the 1990s. Why? Because in the 1990s there was this Japanese basketball manga called "slam dunk" that every kid was watching in China, and the opening credits featured an image of this very spot: a railroad crossing on a small street leading to the beach in Kamakura. Apparently this place is so popular with Chinese tourists that they had to cordon it off at some point. Now it's obviously reopened with 3 guards assigned to handle the traffic. And now that they've heard about it, it's my daughters' turn to be hooked on the series so maybe in 20 years' time they'll be perpetuating the passion and come back to this "Slam Dunk" shrine ☺️
