THREAD: In a damning speech, Benjamin Netanyahu boasted about Israel’s role in the regime-change operation in November/December 2024. Here's what happened 🧵

1/ For over a decade, I have argued that the war in Syria was not a spontaneous uprising or a noble struggle for democracy, but a meticulously engineered regime-change operation orchestrated by the United States, Israel, and their regional allies.

2/ The goal was never about humanitarian concerns or political reform—it was about breaking the so-called “axis of resistance”, severing Hezbollah’s supply lines, and reshaping the Middle East to serve Israeli and American interests. Now, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has all but admitted it.

3/ In a recent speech, Netanyahu boasted about Israel’s role in weakening both Hezbollah and the Syrian government during the conflict.

4/ His words confirm what analysts like myself have long asserted: that Israel viewed Syria’s destabilization as a strategic opportunity to dismantle the Iran-led "axis of resistance."

5/ Netanyahu’s admission is stunning in its candor: "The collapse and removal of Nasrallah really broke the axis. It was a terrific blow... Having delivered that blow to Hezbollah, we also delivered a blow to Assad because Assad was relying heavily on [Hezbollah]."

6/ He goes further, detailing how Israel systematically destroyed Syria’s military capabilities while Julani’s forces distracted the Syrian people with the illusion of liberation from Assad. "Being shed of any support from the West and any support from the East, the Assad regime collapsed. And just to make sure, we destroyed 90% of their armaments... and then improved our positions."

7/ Netanyahu also revealed that Israeli warplanes intercepted Iranian aircraft headed toward Syria in December 2024, preventing them from delivering troops meant to assist the country’s embattled president at the time, Bashar al-Assad.

8/ “They had to rescue Assad,” Netanyahu said, claiming that Iran wanted to send “one or two airborne divisions” to help the Syrian leader. “We stopped that. We sent some F-16s to some Iranian planes that were making some routes to Damascus,” he said. “They turned back.”

9/ This is not speculation—it is a direct confession from the highest levels of the Israeli government. The Syrian war was never a "civil war." It was a proxy war waged by external powers to eliminate a geopolitical adversary.

10/ Netanyahu also reveals another critical truth: the role of Turkey in facilitating the jihadist advance. He notes that extremist factions, including those linked to al-Qaeda, swept through Syrian towns "with the full blessing... of Turkey."

11/ This aligns with my previous reporting that the November 2024 offensive on Aleppo was a joint Turkish-Israeli operation.

12/ While Ankara cynically presented itself as a defender of the Syrian opposition, it was actively collaborating with jihadist factions to weaken Assad—and by extension, Iran’s regional influence.

13/ Israel, meanwhile, exploited the chaos to bomb Syria's strategic weapons without resistance.

14/ While Western powers feigned concern for Syrian civilians, they fuelled a war that left hundreds of thousands dead and millions displaced.

15/ The U.S. and its allies did not merely stand by—they actively facilitated the rise of extremist groups to overthrow Assad, only to later pretend they were fighting terrorism when these same factions turned into a threat.

16/ The truth is now undeniable: Syria was targeted because it refused to bow to U.S.-Israeli hegemony in the region.

17/ The destruction of its military, the fragmentation of its society, and the rise of jihadist factions were all part of a deliberate strategy to ensure that no independent nation could rise again.
