Our EAM was saying that PM Modi and President Trump didn't talk for the last 2 months. However, the American Vice President did talk to Modi ji. On 10th May, 5.25 PM, Trump wrote on social media that after a long night of talks mediated by the US, he was pleased to announce that India and Pakistan had agreed to a full and immediate ceasefire. Soon after that, at 5.37 PM, the US Secretary of State said that the two countries agreed to a ceasefire. This was followed by the Pakistani foreign minister confirming that a ceasefire had indeed been agreed to. Only at around 6 PM did our Foreign Secretary give the statement about the ceasefire. If the ceasefire happened without the intervention of Trump, why doesn't the GoI inform the nation in clear words? This is a clear intervention of a third party in India's affairs. My senior colleague Dr Shashi Tharoor's admiration for PM Modi appears to have transcended the limitations of the physical world. He now seems capable of hearing what Modi doesn't even say. According to the official MEA readout of the Modi–Trump meeting on the sidelines of the G7: 1. There is no mention of the cold-blooded killing of three Indian sailors by the United States in the Gulf of Oman. 2. This was the first Modi-Trump meeting after Operation Sindoor, yet there is no indication that Modi challenged Trump's repeated claim - now made over 120 times - that he secured a ceasefire by threatening India with trade consequences. 3. There is no mention of the attack on Iranian frigate IRIS Dena, India's guest during MILAN-2026, in what is effectively India's strategic backyard. And yet, Tharoor ji somehow heard forceful assertions, robust pushback, and uncompromising diplomacy that never made it into the official record. Perhaps the rest of us are constrained by ordinary human senses. For devotees of the 'Maha-Maanav Modi', the less he says, the more they hear.

It is neither an Indian ship nor a military or Coast Guard vessel. What happened to the mutual agreements between the US and India? Diplomatic talks take place every two weeks. Whenever Trump gives an interview or holds a press conference, he refers to PM Modi as his friend. Then, why such attacks on Indians?... Among those killed in the attack was a man from Visakhapatnam who served as the ship's Chief Engineer; the US military killed him as well. His wife, Bhargavi, had called me this afternoon to inquire about her husband's safety. Initially, we believed three Indian sailors were missing—the Oman Coast Guard had rescued 21 sailors—but this has taken a tragic turn for Visakhapatnam. The killing of the chief engineer by the US military is deeply unfortunate. We had thought he was merely missing. We had tried to contact the foreign ministries of Oman and India regarding these three individuals, but later received the news that the US military had killed them... We have requested the Ministry of External Affairs to ensure the safe return of the bodies to the victims' families. We have also appealed to shipping officials and the Ministry of Shipping to help secure compensation for the families of the deceased sailors."

This morning, Modi government issued a statement in Hindi, which said that Narendra Modi clearly told Donald Trump that ‘he has no role in the ceasefire, and we do not accept any mediation. The ceasefire was not done because of trade.’ But within a few hours, Trump has now said "I stopped the war between India and Pakistan. I love Pakistan. Modi is a wonderful man. I talked to him last night. Now we will also sign a trade deal with him. Asim Munir was influential in stopping the war from Pakistan's side and Modi among others did so from India. But I stopped the war between India and Pakistan." This is indeed very puzzling. The Modi government is saying something else and Trump continues to be adamant on his own claim - which he has now made for the 15th time in the last 38 days. The reality is that the information about the ceasefire was first shared by Trump on X and not the Indian Government. Why is Narendra Modi not able to state openly all that he allegedly told Trump over the phone? India awaits answers. This is a matter of our national security and sovereignty and cannot be treated so recklessly.
