Today I set out deep concerns about how the Government has handled decisions and communications surrounding the recent China spying case and the question of whether China poses a threat to the UK’s national security. The Government has made it difficult to obtain clear information about the timeline of meetings and the reasoning behind official statements. The Government’s approach has been evasive and inconsistent, with denials later giving way to partial admissions. This lack of transparency has eroded confidence and made it harder to get to the truth. At the heart of the issue is the role of the Deputy National Security Adviser (DNSA), who told Parliament that he was simply reflecting the Government’s position when asked whether China poses an active national security threat. I argued that this is not good enough. The question was a straightforward one, and the answer should have been equally straightforward: China does pose a threat to the UK’s national security across multiple fronts, from espionage and cyberattacks to sanctions and disinformation. I raised concerns about the meeting on 1 Sept, which appears to contradict earlier statements by the Prime Minister that no further evidence or discussions took place after that date. If such a meeting did occur with senior security officials present, the Government should release the minutes, at the very least to the Intelligence and Security Committee, to clarify what was discussed. I called for honesty and clarity in how the UK defines and responds to threats from China. Those of us who have been sanctioned and targeted by the Chinese state know first-hand how that threat manifests. A disturbing video has been shared by The Muslim, reportedly from the Signature Bridge area in Delhi. In the video, a voice is heard saying, “Take them out of the grave and burn them all.” Islamophobia at its peak: Hindutva activist Akash Pandit, along with his associates, is alleged to have vandalised a Muslim cemetery, burned grave sheets, and abused the deceased Muslims. Such acts amount to grave desecration, hate speech, and an attempt to incite communal hatred. We urge Delhi Police to immediately identify all the accused and ensure their arrest. We further demand that strict cases be registered under appropriate provisions, including stringent national security laws, to prevent the spread of such violent hatred and to uphold the rule of law. #StopHate #RespectAllReligion

Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh (India) A disturbing incident has been reported in which a 17-year-old boy, Mohd Abdul, was allegedly slapped and forced to do sit-ups by a right-wing activist near a degree college. The boy was accused of being in the college area to meet a friend from the Hindu community. Mohd Abdul reportedly introduced the girl, Anshika, as his cousin in an attempt to avoid confrontation. However, she refused to acknowledge this and left the spot. Following this, the minor was publicly humiliated and assaulted. This incident raises serious concerns about mob vigilantism, child safety, and the breakdown of the rule of law. No individual or group has the authority to assault or punish a minor based on suspicion, identity, or personal associations. We strongly urge the police authorities to take immediate cognizance of the matter, register an appropriate case, and initiate strict legal action against those responsible. Such acts of intimidation and violence must not be allowed to go unchecked.
