"You chose him as your target as he had been convicted of the murder of a child... There were congratulations when you returned to your own landing. Word had spread," judge Mrs Justice McGowan said. "Fellows tried to dispose of his bloodstained trousers. All three had blood on your shoes. All of you had killed before."

Judge Michelle Sisco followed the jury's May 15 recommendation for life in prison instead of death for Sean Gathright, 20; Isaiah Chance, 23; Davion Murphy, 29; and Rashad Murphy, 32. A jury on May 8 convicted Gathright and the Murphys of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit first-degree murder and three counts of attempted second-degree murder for three people who were with Charles "Julio Foolio" Jones Jr. when he was shot to death in his Dodge Charger in a hotel parking lot next to the University of South Florida early on June 23, 2024.
