In 1995, an Asian elephant named Tarra became the first resident of a wildlife sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee, in the southern United States. The sanctuary was built specifically for retired and rescued elephants. Over the years, more elephants arrived. They formed bonds with each other. Tarra remained alone.
