But I'd gladly pay it secure in the knowledge that those who can really afford it will be paying many thousands of pounds more and those who can't would pay many hundreds of pounds less.

@lewis_goodall @harrytlambert @GlobalPlayer The Council Tax idea couldn't possibly work; there is no correlation between disposable income & house value. Indeed, many in lower value homes (thus lower mortgage/ rent) have more disposable income. The capital value of homes is sunk, & can't be redeemed on an annual basis.

@harrytlambert @GlobalPlayer @lewis_goodall The problem with cooncil tax is it's got bugger all to do with wealth, save the ludicrously low cap (band H) . It's a political tax designed to penalise left-wing councils and hide Wminster cuts to social services most often accessed by poorer people.

@harrytlambert @GlobalPlayer @lewis_goodall Home value and income don't necessarily correlate. I live in the South East - Council Tax is already high. This would increase money by £600 a year - similarly my son renting in London would see a huge increase. There are no easy quick fixes here.
