Three years ago, we started Restate because we felt that building reliable distributed applications was just too hard. We were solving the same problems around failures, recovery, and consistency again and again. Today, I'm excited to share that we've raised a $20M Series A led by Singular with participation...

the interesting shift is treating an agent as a process that has to survive interruptions, not just a loop that calls tools that makes recovery and partial progress part of the application design

A retry is harmless until the tool charges a card or sends an email twice. Recovery semantics are part of the agent product, not just the infrastructure.

i wanted to try this, but the choice of the BSL license made me reconsider fast - if you really believe that you are building a fundamental pillar of all infrastructure, why not make it open source?

the agent case adds one requirement to the journal: recovery can't re-decide. a second pass of the model won't emit the same calls, and the effects that already fired belong to the first pass. replay the recorded decisions, or the resumed run is a different run.

Here we go again 🚀! Excited to announce that we're building A1Zap (YC W25) with Pennie Li and that we're in the Y Combinator W25 batch in San Francisco! What is A1Base? A1Base gives AI Agents a real world identity for work. We do that by rebuilding Twilio and Okta from the ground up, putting AI Agents first. This means developers can make AI-first agentic applications 10x easier with our API's. ⁉️ Why are we doing this? Because there's a huge torrent of new valuable companies possible with AI agents, but to get their AI Agents to users, they have to chain custom apps, chat interfaces, awkward Slack integrations, browser bots, and wrestle with Twilio’s legacy API (which is built for marketing). We solve this by providing developers with an easy to use API to interface your AI agent with humans/coworkers/users where they are in this case in Whatsapp, Slack, Teams, SMS and more) - with AI Agent features built in. These digital workers are poised to transform how we work and we're the critical infrastructure to help them interact naturally in human workflows. We're not just building another AI tool. We're creating the infrastructure that will enable AI agents to become a natural part of the workforce - handling everything from customer support to sales development to creative work. We're backed by Y Combinator and working with founding teams who share our vision. We believe that in the near future, AI Agents with human coworkers will enable us to pursue more creative and impactful work. Our mission is to help developers build AI Agents that people can partner with and rely on as trusted allies—always with a human-first mindset. If you're thinking about the Agentic future of your company reach out! If you're looking to build your first AI Agentic company - reach out too - we have some amazing open source templates to get you started on the journey. Excited to share more of what we're up to soon 🔜.

BREAKING: Tesla has released its Master Plan Part 4. "This next chapter in Tesla’s story will help create a world we've only just begun to imagine and will do so at a scale that we have yet to see. We are building the products and services that bring AI into the physical world. Now, we are combining our manufacturing capabilities with our autonomous prowess to deliver new products and services that will accelerate global prosperity and human thriving driven by economic growth shared by all. We are unifying our hardware and software at scale, and in doing so, we are creating a safer, cleaner and more enjoyable world. We’re accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable abundance. We must make one thing clear: this challenge will be extremely difficult to overcome. The elimination of scarcity will require tireless and exquisite execution. Some will perceive it as impossible. And plenty of others will laud every obstacle and setback we inevitably encounter along the way. But once we overcome this challenge, our critics will come to see that what they once thought was impossible is indeed possible. And that will be fine with us, because what matters most is that, together, we create a sustainable and truly abundant future for generations to come. Today we are on the cusp of a revolutionary period primed for unprecedented growth. And this time it will not be a single step but a leap forward for Tesla and humanity as a whole. The tools we are going to develop will help us build the kind of world that we've always dreamed of—a world of sustainable abundance—by redefining the fundamental building blocks of labor, mobility and energy at scale and for all."

Today, we’re excited to announce our $50M Series B, led by Greenfield Partners (formerly TPG Capital), with participation from Lightspeed and Notable Capital. 🚀 At PatronusAI, we develop simulations and evals to train and improve AI. The first phase of AI was built on static benchmarks, but that era is over now. As agents are used to solve longer and longer tasks, they need to practice in dynamic, living worlds to get better. Simulations are the critical infrastructure powering this next phase. As a company, we’re behind the most influential research and products in AI evaluation, like FinanceBench, Lynx, and Percival. And things have moved at the speed of light since. ⚡ We partner with the world's leading frontier AI labs and enterprises, and our revenue has grown more than 15x over the past year. Additionally, today, we’re introducing a preview of the first Digital World Model for AI agent training and simulation: Patronus-DWM. Digital World Models are language diffusion world models that predict realistic environment behaviors and steer agent actions across digital workflows. Just as physical world models predict how objects move through space, we’re developing the equivalent for the digital world: predicting how agents act in digital workflows, then using that to scale the creation of high-quality training data for LLMs. Digital World Models help us push the frontier of ultra long horizon workflows, and unlock a new class of self-improving RL environments. This is our scalable approach to simulating all of the world’s intelligence. The round was also joined by Datadog, Inc., Samsung Ventures, Gokul Rajaram, Factorial Capital, and a large cohort of amazing AI leaders and researchers across Anthropic, OpenAI, Google DeepMind, NVIDIA, Recursive, and more. ✨ It has been the ride of a lifetime. But we’re just getting started. The best is yet to come. "Do not go gentle into that good night, Rage, rage against the dying of the light" - Dylan Thomas (1954)

SAM ALTMAN BELIEVES AGI IS SOLVED “So now we're starting to look ahead to superintelligence.” - “When we started OpenAI, almost nine years ago now, we believed that AI could become the most impactful technology in human history. We didn't know exactly how we were going to get there, but we believed it was possible and that if we succeeded, we wanted to make sure that it benefited everyone. At the time, very few people believed in AGI. We kept learning by doing. We had some breakthroughs. We had some setbacks. We got lucky in some places. We got unlucky in some places. And in the way that technology moves forward, we now are in a place where everyone can see this tremendous impact that AI is going to have in the future. So now we're starting to look ahead to superintelligence. And even more than before, our focus must be on wide and fair access. This is a technology that will reshape the global economy and really the whole way we live our lives. It's critical that superintelligence becomes cheap, broadly available, and not that concentrated with any one person, company, or country. We, not just OpenAI, but the whole industry, we are building something PROFOUND. This is a kind of BRAIN OF THE WORLD. It'll be personal, adaptable, it'll be easy to use, it'll give people incredible superpowers that were sort of science fiction only a couple of years ago. The limit won't be the algorithms and the research, but it'll increasingly become the physical instantiation that it takes to make this work. Chips, cables, servers, energy, everything that you need to power this brain. And the more of it, the better. I think that Norway offers more of that potential right here in Europe. It will contribute to the overall compute power needed to drive the next wave of AI breakthroughs and deployment and economic progress for Europe and Europe. I'm incredibly excited about what this will create for the future. Thank you.”
